Had a great hayride last night down to Clinton Falls. Went over the "haunted" Edna Collins covered bridge. Enjoyed a terrific dinner then down to the campfire for pumpkin carving contest results and lively conversation and games. Didn't get to bed until after 2 am for some! Hope everyone is having a fun time!!

Having a great time with a great group of people! Everyone down at the campfire cooking. Dutch over peach cobbler, hobo stew, baked beans over an open fire. Smells terrific! Had a rosary service at noon, recited prayers and sang hymns. Going to 5 pm Mass as a group, then back for dinner and possible a hay ride. Weather might become a factor later on but we're praying it misses us.

Howdy Folks! Just a week away from the camp out. The leaves are changing color quickly due to the severe drought we had through spring and summer. Since August 1st, we've had over 15 inches of rain, so NO problem with a fire ban. As long as the wind stays down, we should have plenty of color and leaves on the trees next week. I have enjoyed co-hosting this event, and hope you will all enjoy some Hoosier Hospitality! My farm is definitely secluded and quiet. The view of the night sky is spectacular. Looking forward to having a great time with a great group of Catholics. See you Friday, 10/12

Just a thought - guess 'pumpkins' are on the brain....
If there are any farm attendees who have room to bring extra pumpkins to the farm to sell to those who may NOT have room to bring their own......will you please post here (and on CAMA Indy FB) to make that offer? It would be a lot easier on travelers to know they can just pay you for their pumpkin when they get to the farm. Thanks.

That's the right checklist, Hilda. It's the one we made up for this event. Tracy offered to post our info on her event website so it would be readily available to those no longer on CM. All that info is here on the Event page as well. We tried to spread the word and all details as best we could so everyone would come prepared to have a wonderful time!
Dawn - your lunch sounds yummy! I'm jealous you already have your checklists done - guess I better start thinking about my own personal stuff, huh? :)
Ahhhhh, the Indy Glow - I'd forgotten our term. I just love it, it fits so well!

I have my checklists going-- one for shopping, one for food, one for spiritual stuff (one of my tasks for the weekend) and one for packing. :)
I have my tent all ready to go. Hilda, we have plenty of room for air mattresses, ourselves and our stuff. :)
If anyone wants to join me for Hobo Stew (my version of a tinfoil meal) for a lunch let me know, and I'll tell you what you need to bring for us. We can coordinate things. I don't anticipate a lot of people wanting to do this because Mary and the whole gang have planned fabulous meals for us for dinner.
I am getting all kinds of sweet ideas for campfire food, fun and friends. I promise not to stick you on a roasting stick until you turn golden brown and gooey! I do promise to laugh, sing and bask in the glow-- of the Camp Fire and what we call the Indy Glow (we're an iridescent- fluorescent kind of crowd!)

Sounds like everything and everyone is on track for a fantastic weekend! As Hilda said - have that checklist from the Event page handy when you pack your things - make sure you have everything. Don't forget your lunches and drinks, flashlight and batteries, and WARM layers of clothes and bedding.
Rosa - yes, pack bug spray and sun lotion. You may not need it, but pack it just in case.
Foil meals are great! You can add what you want - sausage, more veggies, sprinkle some Mrs. Dash in it before you close it up and cook it. MAY want to bring an oven mitt to hold it with while you are unwrapping it.
Helen - we've called those 'banana boats' since we were kids - good memories! Really yummy. We also made them using a hot dog bun - spread the pb, line it the long way with banana slices, add the chips, marshmallows, etc - and toast it up. Very tasty.
We do have some marshmallows there for the campfire. I brought a few boxes of graham crackers too. Bring your own chocolate if you want the full s'more experience.

Oh ya, Tim, I've made something similar...easy to get creative with that concept as far as ingredients. Anothe version of that, if you are wanting something sweet is to take a banana, split it open on one side and kind've spread it open but leaave the banana in it, then just add chocolate chips, p.b. chips, nuts, marshmallows or whatever you want...kind've a healthy treat. :9

I noticed on the forum thread Mary posted about what people were making for their lunches and whether they were going to tackle a camp stove or open fire. Since the fire pit should be going, I thought I would mention a simple meal I call a hobo pack. I make mine with sausage cut into pieces, potatoes, maybe some squash or other vegetables, onion, some season salt, butter and double wrap it in tinfoil and stick it in the coals of the fire. Wait for a little while and viola', a terrific hot meal.

MAIN menu items for our weekend - there will be a few other sides as well:
Fri dinner - sloppy joes, hot dogs, green beans, pasta salad (available all evening to feed late arrivals)
Sat bfast - Egg & sausage casserole, muffins, fruit
Sat dinner - mostacchioli (pasta w/ meat sauce), rolls, tossed salad, green beans
Sun bfast - bacon-egg-cheese casserole, muffins, fruit
Sun 3pm dinner - pulled pork sandwiches, potato salad, tossed salad
PB & J sandwiches are available for each meal as well.
NOTE: If the above foods are unacceptable to you for ANY reason, please bring your own simple replacement meals. Unfortunately, the kitchen will be unavailable - we need the facilities to prepare and serve the planned menu items, so bring things that don't need heating, unless you bring a camp stove to do so. Thanks.

I'll be working out here all weekend so come out whenever.

Both are blue, but the fabric on the better chair has a corduroy feel to it and has a fine striped pattern in a lighter than navy blue, mine is plain navy blue. I remember it fondly ... despite the first night jitters, when I went to bed determined to go back home the next day, I stayed the weekend and enjoyed the experience (and the company) very much. I'm having jitters again but I'm getting motivated to give it a try.

Like many parishes, Sat. night is primarily made up of Senior Citizens. Older women tend to wear slacks. We are the only parish in the county. It's a small town and a rural area. We have "lake people" and campers in the summer from the nearby reservoirs. We are a big ag county. Clean jeans, a good pair of boots, and a straw hat IS dressing up! ok, wear what you want:) Just thought a little insight might help with having an idea of what to pack:)

Wow I love all the interest the Chicago weekend generated! You Indy folks did us proud!
Anyone looking to carpool - post where you're coming from and what approx days/times you will travel - see if anyone wants to join you.
Everyone coming onto the property needs to submit a registration / liability release form in advance, with appropriate payments - kids and day visitors included. No daily charge for day visitors. There is a $5 per meal fee if they want to join in on any of our 'provided' meals, and they need to mark which exact meals those are on the registration form so our counts are correct. Everyone needs to supply their own dishes or mess kit (including cup and utensils), drinks, snacks and lunches.

I'll also be bringing a "solar shower" and two 5-gal. water jugs that I hung in trees last year for the guys to use for cleaning up.

Hi, rebeca. Indianapolis international airport.
I'm with Helen... I know that there will be tent space available. I have room for another person and can borrow at least one additional tent...plenty of coolers, etc....and I'm one of the less "camp worthy" of the group so others will be more helpful! :)

Kathleen, I don't think you will need to worry about a tent...last year a number of us ladies had room in our tents so it shoudln't be an issue finding sleeping room for the ladies coming from afar (and true of the guys...I think they all had room in their tents for guys coming from afar). I would think we can probably figure out sharing of coolers and cooking items and there are stores on the way from the airport where you might be able to pick up some basics as well. I am guessing when Mary and Tim have everyone's registration papers and fees, etc...than it will be easier to work some of that out. :)

Registration / Liability forms and $35 Activity fee is DUE ONE MONTH FROM TODAY. Please get those in on time.
There is a minimum number we want in order to justify ordering the porta-johns - we don't want to put our own cash out up front and get stuck with the balance personally.
REMINDER - ever person who will be at the farm needs a signed registration form turned in. Thanks much - should be a great time!
July 15th, 2012 - Mary-363093 said:
Cheryl - it's open to families, but we do need a registration form for every person attending. In the past we've had folks from all over the country come to Indy for our outings. There are people driving and flying in who are bringing stuff with them, and also if you post here that you are looking to room in another lady's tent or need to borrow a sleeping bag or whatever - try to work it out so you don't have to bring as many things with you. Post publicly because I'm sure several attendees have extra things they may be able to loan out - but the hosts aren't in charge of that part. Or write directly to some of the other gals you see posting to see if they can help you out.
We are doing everything we can to help with rides for those folks traveling via public transportation to Indy - but we need to know as far in advance as possible what the exact schedule is to work it out. Most of the host committee will be at the farm at least a day early setting up. Anyone who wants a ride should post publicly and see if other attendees might be able to help out. Until we get registration forms in - we don't know anyone's schedule or how they plan to get here.
Hope you can make it!

Rebecca, a lot of us women share what we have with those coming from further distances...as the time gets closer and they have commitments it will be easier to figure all of that out. Last year there were women with larger tents that were able to share. I'm sure some of the stuff can be worked out. Perhaps smaller things you might have to ship or you can pick-up when you get to the area.
July 14th, 2012 - Tim-100809 said:
Hi Rebeca, yes we can discuss it in Chicago and see what needs to be done. I would think UPS ground would be the way to go, but the USPS might be a good way to ship it as well. The dimensions and weight will be the determining factor. I ship computer parts all the time and some are quite big and bulky(21" CRT) so I know a bit about the shipping business.

nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/factsheet.aspx?SpeciesID=1068. You can use the link or Google it! The DNR rep that came out to the farm was very knowledgeable. The kids took them to school and they lived about 4 weeks in a tank. They usually appear in August, but I believe they might show up much earlier(now) because of the extremely hot weather. Just another unique feature of the property.

Sounds good to me, Tim! Thanks for the amenities for us gals. :)
I still pause for a second when you mention the freshwater jellyfish. I never knew there was anything other than saltwater jellyfish until you said something. Never too old to learn, are we? SEE everyone - this is an EDUCATIONAL weekend too! LOL!
Looking forward to a lot of fun!

I have been thinking about this for a while now. I know Mary has been pretty clear it is kinda rough out at the farm. Since we have decided to use porto-lets this year, it should save significantly on the septic system. So, I have made a command decision that the ladies can use the showers(2) in the house to clean up. Limit it to 5 minutes and I don't think we'll have a problem. As far as the lake goes, there is NO grunge. My lake has pristine water quality as the DNR certified my lake because of the "freshwater" jellyfish that reside in it. At the time it was certified, there were less than 50 bodies of water in the state of Indiana that contained the jellyfish. So, guys, we can wade in if it's not super cold! lol

Rebeca! We'd love to have you join us. Please do not let the logistics dissuade you. We will figure out a way to meet all of your needs. We all can coordinate sharing tents, etc. Those of us driving in are more than happy to help out those who are eager to join us but are flying in.

Hey, people, especially you pyros, start praying for rain this summer!!! With near drought conditions here already in June, we don't want any burn bans raining on our fun in October!
So happy to have so much fun to look forward to in October!

All right - Michelle and Nancy will be there!
I'm loving the comments - I forgot about the lion we all had to look for! :) Luckily, there was no actual danger, the men were prepared to take care of any wild animals that came near us. We all were perfectly safe.

I'm definitely looking forward to this. Helen, I can teach you some of the finer points of euchre if Dennis can't. I played every single day at lunch my junior year of high school. It was so popular around our high school that people used to joke that knowing how to play euchre was a graduation requirement.

Yay Dawn and Chris will be there - they are a core part of the host team!! Those gals know how to camp!
Jonathan - welcome to the Camp Out! Hope you can make it. There are a few of us native Michiganders among this group - I was born in Detroit, had relatives that lived for years on James Dr near Universal Mall.

Farm Outing Yes!!!! I still have my dip bag from girl scouts, so doing dishes will be a breeze. I think I might get one of those pie irons and make something yummy. I think I need to start experimenting over the fire pit now so I have my recipes down to a science.

Oh ya, Euchre...I had forgotten about that....was hoping you had to, Dennis...LOL...actually it sounds like you guys had a good time with that in February....I don't think you will have time to teach the finer points of Euchre with all the responibility of managing the fire and wood. ;) teehee... Oh heck, bring it on!

I'd love to get some card games going while we're there - bring em, Dennis!
Helen - I can only imagine what gorgeous things you can create being surrounded by all that inspiration!
Ann - you're another one who will come this year WITHOUT an injury. You had a wing in a sling last time, right?
