Jesus & Grace Walked The Path Of Crosses And Joys

Jesus and Grace had both lived through the pain of loss. The Miami residents had each seen their first spouse pass away, and had doubts about whether they were supposed to marry again. Each was strong in their faith though, and after much prayer, they came to the decision to put themselves out there on CatholicMatch to meet someone of the same faith.

It was appropriate then, that their first date would be at Mass. In January 2012 they got together at Our Lady of Lourdes parish in southwest Miami. “We discovered that we had a lot in common and enjoyed each other’s company,” Jesus recalled.

They both felt there was enough of a foundation to continue getting to know each other. “We spent our time attending Mass, going to ballroom dances, lunches, relaxing and engaging in simple conversation.” Jesus and Grace’s pressure-free manner of dating undoubtedly facilitated the growth of their relationship and made the whole process that much easier.

Jesus & Grace kept their dates light, but their commitment to prayer and discernment was deep.

However, they both struggled with the decision of whether they should take it to the next level. Jesus is 68, Grace is six years older, and that was something that weighed on them both. “The thought of getting married as seniors was not an easy decision to make,” Jesus admitted.

What eventually swung them to a positive decision was the natural compatibility they both felt with each other, and just how much they enjoyed the companionship that came with the relationship. “I have prayed about this,” Grace said. “And I look forward to our lives together.”

Six months after meeting, Jesus proposed marriage and Grace accepted. They were married on September 29 of last year, the day the Church celebrates the feast of the archangels, Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael. The latter archangel, being the matchmaker, surely took special delight in the union of two faith-filled Catholics.

Jesus said: “We are delighted to report that (marriage) has been a joyful journey.”
