I'm not sure why there was any question of where the Church stood before this. Pope Benedict made a very clear statement in 2009.

Regardless of what negotiations are taking place, or not taking place; regardless of whatever the rumor du jour may be; until the Vatican issues an official pronouncement, the status does not change.

There wasn't any question of where the church stood, it was in the process of trying to communicate and talk to them, now we know where it stands, meaning, no further talks nor dicussions or agreements have been made. It remains as it was.

WOW.. I guess the talks did not produce any fruit? surprised

Thank you for the information Peter.

Anyone who goes to confession at the Catholic churches that are affiliated with the Society of Saint Pius X their confession would be invalid because the priests that belong to this society are not in full communion with the cardinals, bishops and the pope.

Actually, that's not quite accurate. The priests of the SSPX do not have the regular faculties/jurisdiction to hear confessions, or absolve under ordinary circumstances; that is why the Sacrament of Penance (and this applies to attempted Holy Matrimony witnessed by an SSPX priest, also) is invalid in that case. However, they have the faculties supplied by the Church (called supplied jurisdiction) in two cases: penitent's danger of death, and if the penitent is truly in error as to the regular faculties of the SSPX priest.

Reference for this is: canons 976 and 144.

SSPX thinks the tail wags the dog, that the vatican will have to come around to THEIR way of seeing things. thankfully, the holy see just gave the leash a short sharp tug. let those overweening dissenters know who's boss.

enough of their unchecked nonsense. enough of their vile anti-semitism. time to take the pride down a notch and do what they're told.

you'd think they'd understand what an opportunity they're being given. if they can't get their way with benedict, do they think the next pope will be more sympathetic?
