As a kid I loved Christmas and Advent. I remember the 23rd of December being a great day, still having the anticipation of Christmas coming, calling it Christmas Eve Eve. And Christmas Eve itself was so much fun because it was the one time all year we'd meet both sets of our cousins at a big party. Of course Christmas morning was amazing, and Christmas Day meant my Grandma and Grandpa and Aunts and Uncles were coming. It gets harder as I get older, but I want to get a little bit of that childhood joy back this year. I'll do my best to get that again.

I love the holiday season, but at home, I tend to keep things rather toned down thru Advent ... a quiet time of preparation.

I like to take the Holidays one at a time, in two weeks we will be having Thanksgiving!

I'm actually very excited about this year's holiday season. At 28 I've never been able to share a holiday with someone. This year might possibly be different. I recently met a young lady here on CM. We will actually meet in person on tues after communicating for a few weeks. A lot in common, we are both competitive fighters (literally) shes a kickboxer and I'm a MMA fighter, but most of all a lot of connections on a personal level. She is turning out to be the real version of what I considered ideal. Shes hit every check point on the list so to speak. When describing the ideal relationship we both had the same words in the same order. Its almost a too good to be true. Hopefully, maybe, this will work out.

There are still lots of things to do in order to fend off the dark days. I am cooking the big meal even though my daughter will be out of town for Thanksgiving. I have extended an invitation to several in my parish that I know have no close relatives. I may be alone, but that's still OK.

I took several extra days off that week to prepare my home for Advent. Things are really exciting with a little person in my home. He's excited about a Jesse tree and Advent candles. He's excited about making a gift for his mom, secrets, wrapping gifts, cooking baking and candy making.

When we think about what we don't have, let's give a thought to those who have less. There are shelters that need help. Women's shelters are bursting this time of year, usually at the last minute and children who need to know that there is still magic even in the most dire of circumstances. There are children stuck on the cancer floor. Go read one a book, play a game, listen, pray with them.

Dawn..your get togethers sound fun...why not use one as a planning session...plan a trip for caroling to a seniors center, a wrapping session for Operation Christmas, put a holiday food basket together for donation. Just a thought as we are all active in our churches. We all have a lot of love to give. I hope all of our holiday plans bring us together in love and service to God. heart

That's awesome Carlos. Sounds like a really nice story could be developing. May your relationship be blessed with great success, and may you both fight the good fight.

The good Jewish boys I know (and dated) all take their mothers to the movies, David. And yes, that IS why the theaters are open on Christmas day! heart

I usually don't have a bad Christmas/Thanksgiving season. It helps having a daughter, so as long as we get to spend time together, it's good.

I also usually get to spend some time with my old high school friends, jeez grade school friends. A lot of us are still local. So, I feel pretty comfortable with them.

But, certainly if anyone is feeling lonely during Advent and Christmas, shout out. There will be lots of people on CM to reach out with love.

God Bless,

(Quote) Dawn-58330 said: Officially the holiday season is a few weeks away, but we all have seen the blatant signs of it coming. Are you ready? Often the season is difficult for us singles. It's hard to be alone in the sea of marrieds we are with at family gatherings, office parties, church, and other areas of our life. Do you have a plan for making sure that you get the most out of the holidays? Or are you planning on wallowing in the misery? Do you have some secret strategies that you can share with us?

I contemplated this today when I heard my first Christmas song on the radio (I know, some of you heard it in September) and I realized I'm not ready. But I have a plan! I am attending a few CM gatherings. I have found I am never uncomfortable or down about the holidays when I know I'll be celebrating with great CM friends! (There are already at least a dozen definite attendees. ) Come join us at the CM Indy Christmas party on the first Sunday of Advent! We'd love to celebrate with you!

I plan on going to a Pro-Life Gala sponsored by the young adults ministry of the Archdiocese of San Antonio in December. I look most certainly forward to it!
