Nope....I saw this too and there are many people in quite a few states doing these petitions, but really it is only a handful of the people that are signing these things...I think Texas has the most signatures at 9,000 something....good ol' Texas. I do think it makes a statement for how many people want the politicians to uphold the constitution. Also, I had a history course a while back that talked about how in Europe people were more willing to be taxed and let the govt. decide where it should go.....whereas in our country we wree not (well, we weren't founded that way either); however, perhaps there has been a change in the tide now and the majority is ready to be taxed more thinking the govt is benevolent more so than private ministries and business...uh, physician assisted suicide....I don't think so!

We've got agriculture, Eagle Ford Shale, refineries, the Gulf coast fishing industry, and the Dixie Chicks don't live here anymore. What more does one need? mischievous

I HOPE SO! Praying God Bless Texas!

Texas is up to 23,000 now, I guess. If any state gets 25,000 in one month, the white house has to respond.

From news story: news.yahoo.com

Not everybody who wants to secede is polite enough to write a petition. Peter Morrison, treasurer of the Hardin County (Texas) Republican Party, wrotea post-election newsletterin which he urges the Lone Star State to leave the Union.

"We must contest every single inch of ground and delay the baby-murdering, tax-raising socialists at every opportunity. But in due time, the maggots will have eaten every morsel of flesh off of the rotting corpse of the Republic, and therein lies our opportunity... Why should Vermont and Texas live under the same government? Let each go her own way in peace, sign a free trade agreement among the states and we can avoid this gut-wrenching spectacle every four years."

Perphaps yahoo is behind because according to abcnews.go.com "The petition to "Peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government," was submitted on Friday of last week. Just three days later, it zoomed past the 25,000 mark at 3:22 p.m. today and kept going. "

"Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it. But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government," Perry Press Secretary Catherine Frazier said in a statement to ABC News. "We cannot allow Washington's tax and spend, one-size-fits-all mindset to jeopardize our children's future, undermine our personal liberties and drive our nation down a dangerous path to greater dependence of government."
