Karis,

There are loony and crazy people in all walks of life. Certainly this woman qualifies as such.

I ask you.... Which is more loony/crazy?.... This woman who tried to run over her husband with an SUV or someone who votes for a president who thinks that parents should have the right to kill, dismember and dispose of their own unborn children? ... even after the child is accidentally delivered alive.

Could there be something in that SF Bay Area air that damages peoples' brain cells?

Ed, forgive me, but, I seriously do not see moral equivalency here. Your rant, however, gives me pause. Here is a woman who attempted to kill her husband for not voting, presumably for the republicans since his wife is an acknowledged Obama hater. All I was trying to demo is how destructive an unbridged anger among the right can lead some to do. I was hoping for a balanced commentary about thoughtless actions by many on the right arising from the frustrations of a Romney loss of the presidential contest. Instead I get a vuvuzela drama queen rant. Is that fair?

Socialism is actually a state of mind, it has nothing to do with transferring wealth among classes. There are some very wealthy people who live like socialists, they give away their wealth away to the poor, or the church while living very modest lives. Most of them will be found in the west. On the other hand, there are those who profess socialism by name only, but live the lives of capitalists. Lots of them will be found today in China, and in the then Soviet Union. In the halls of academia, it is often a tragic fantasy. Among the republicans, it is used as a four letter word to describe those they are in disagreement with; in this forum, it is used as an anti-religious crusade with a dose of bigotry toward those that do not confirm to a crazy theology or political irrelevance.

Karis,

It is interesting that you believe that I was ranting in some way. Gosh.... you are sensitive. I agreed that this woman was acting in a "loony/crazy" (your words) manner. I am simply trying to get you to crack open your eyes eyepopping to see the grave moral implications of someone voting for a candidate (Obama) who has done so much to advance the abortion cause in the U.S. and in many other countries (through U.N. policies of family "planning").

What I find interesting and troubling is that you (apparently) cannot see the grave moral implications of a vote for such a man when you certainly must/should know that many innocent lives will be ended as a direct result of his successful re-election. Until you can make the connection between a vote for Obama and an increase in abortions over the coming years, it would be quite pointless and impossible to have a rational discussion or a "balanced commentary" as you suggested. You apparently just refuse to make the connection (or are blind to the connection) between a vote for a such a man and the resulting destruction of human lives through increased abortion. That is sad.... really very sad.

If I were to die tonight and meet my judgement, I would certainly not know how I could justify such a vote. Perhaps you just don't believe that we will be held accountable for such a morally bankrupt vote (which it is, in my opinion), but I believe that we certainly will be held accountable for such things.

And... Point of Inquiry... What exactly is a "vuvuzela drama queen rant"? scratchchin scratchchin rolling eyes It sounds like some ridiculous phrase that you just made up in an attempt to discount the comments of someone because you simply don't want to face the facts of the moral implications of the choices that you make election day.... Or is anyone who disagrees with you simply ranting? Just asking.

As I finish this message, I find that my blood pressure is very low and I am relaxing quite comfortably in my slippers at my computer.... so I must not be ranting. What a relief. laughing

I hope you have a nice, thought-filled scratchchin and prayer-filled Praying rosary weekend. wave

Socialism has everything to do with transferring wealth. Please see the definitions of socialism which have been discussed in this thread. Giving your wealth away to the poor is not "living like a socialist." Socialsim means giving wealth to the government, or rather being forced to give to the government, because in socialism it is government who has ultimate ownership of the means of production, of property. The opposite of gov't control in socialism is free markets. In free markets, the wealthy are free to give to the poor; but that doesn't turn a free market into a socialist one.

Florian - you are absolutely correct. Socialism is achieved by an oppressive and violent government forcibly taking from you what you have earned. Our IRS operates without restraint. If someone owes me money and they don't pay it back, I can't freeze their bank accounts, close their businesses and put liens on their houses. That group of thugs does it routinely.

Giving your money and wealth away, as you see fit, is honorable and pleasing in the eyes of God. Doing it through the brutality of the federal government should make most of us cry for revolution. But, most libs are asking for more, please tax me more is what I hear.

First, the king breaks your legs. Then he gives you a crutch. All the people rejoice, for if it wasn't for the king we could not walk.

I am not a socialist, but some of the papal language used to describe socialism seems too harsh. I disagree with some of it....some of the self described socialists are some of the best people I have ever known. I wonder what they would say to, say the Portuguese and Spanish slave dealers of the 17th and 18th centuries who became famously wealthy dealing in human cargo. Some of those wealthy slave dealers went on to become some of the most respected donors churches and museums. Most abolitionists were self described socialists. So, if you were a slave in the 17th and 18th centuries, who would you have preferred to be on your side, the slave merchant, the pope or the abolitionist socialist?
