A letter to Cheryl:

Cheryl, as an Obama supporter, and one who understands the dynamics of the economy fairly well, I can tell your sister and brother-in-law this much, and with conviction. The American economy is steadily on the mend. The policies laid out by the Obama administration in the last four years are beginning to work.
She should take heart in this scenario: In January 2009 when Obama took office, 800,000 people were laid off in that month alone, and 700,000 every month after that until the stimulus package was passed, money disbursed, and war-rah the job hemorrhaging stopped, the domino effect of large financial institutions collapsing stopped. Then a modicum economic growth ensued.

In order to get a better grip of what happened in the previous years picture this: eye-drops are great cures for a red eye. But, if one dripped eye-drops (please let no one try this on anyone, they will get hurt and you will go jail or face the death penalty) into a friends glass of water over a few years, you will slowly poison them to death. That in a nutshell is what the entire republican administration did to this great nation's economy for eight years! Bush, Cheney, Newt, Sununu, and Rove with Romney cheering them from his golden stands passed policies that took this country's economy back to the similarities of the great depression of 1929. Although the rest of us kept saying, please stop, the misinformed conservatives' followers had no idea! Unpaid for medicare drug package, two unnecessary unpaid for wars that consumed both blood and treasure from the bottom of the granaries of the American economy, and gutted the regulatory framework that eventually destroyed the checks and balances of a confused capitalist philosophy.

Cheney and friends got rich, they financed more corrupt elections so they can continue the plunder, and to add insult to injury, they redistributed the surplus of the Clinton economic years to among the top wealthiest Americans, who often screamed that they did not need it. But, Bush/Cheney had a plan, give the money back to the wealthy and then call them up to cough up political contributions to finance their next elections. It is a circular dance of the absurd. And as the banks collapsed, citizens lost their savings, health benefits, home values disappearing,....Romney again stood on his golden stand and said...let the real estate bottom out!

So, Obama comes, puts policies in place in an attempt to reverse the eight years of the Bush/Cheney economic abuse, all this while the conservatives, mainly driven by primal, visceral rage, and an eye on the 2012 elections did their best to stop the passage of the economic policies. Do not mention health care, it will confuse you.

Now that the majority of the American people have tamed the republicans by voting back Obama, there is a great chance that his pro-growth policies will have minimal opposition. The result, as we can all see is an expanding economy and more jobs being created. So, to your sister and brother-in-law, I would say; take heart, Obama is back in office, and the good Lord is watching over us. We will be fine, the nation is in good hands!

As for you, I recognize that you are both a sceptic and virulent cynic, but you should find comfort in this letter, too. Thank you!

surprised Huh?

Isn't an Obama supporter who "understands the dynamics of the economy" a contradiction in terms?

Definitely. O'Reilly sent Waters out to interview his supporters in front of the Maher show....they are so ignorant. They think this president spent less money than other presidents eyepopping as just one example....oh, and there were so many more examples they demonstrated.

...when Catholic hospitals are closing, when priests are being arrested for not marrying Adam and Steve, when our country starts aborting children with tax money, when the Catholic Church is completely turned on and the movement by secular atheists to annihilate the Church begins in full force, then the utterly horrendous, morally bankrupt nature of the voting practices of the cafeteria Catholics will finally be realized, and a lot of Catholics who voted for Obama will say the same thing Robert Bruce said:

"Money, lands, titles, power..nothing those pro-life Catholics fight for something that Ive never had, and I took it from them when I betrayed them and I saw it in their faces on the battlefield, and its tearing me apart." ~ Fr. Hollowell

Amen! The economy is on the mend. Where were all these people when Bush was in office? Probably watching Fox News while Bush engaged us in 2 wars which were none of our business while the rich whooped it up with tax breaks, tax credits and tax benefits they frankly didn't need. God bless Halliburton!

Florian, that is a pathetic knee-jerk reaction. Since when did the Fox news oven become a source for serious economic analysis?

...and just for the record Gustavo...because I don't have time to TEACH you....the economy is NOT on the mend....we have posted a plethora of threads of the companies now laying off post election and my sister's company is one of them...her husband already loss his job. EVERYone in my family had jobs under Bush...and before another liberal tries to blame him for Obama ruining this country...he had both houses his first two years in office. The real unemployment numbers are in now post election and it ain't pretty.

As one of the unemployed...I can't stand hearing from these liberals. The millions of babies dying from Obama and planned parenhood and GE, his buddy who didn't pay any taxes in 2010 thank you though for your support....not the unemployed...but they do. WARS? Are you kidding? What stone have you been living under....Lybia....Benghzi where he left four of our men to die and then lied to us about it for two weeks, etc. The entire congress was told that there were weopons of mass destruction after they attacked us....and you didn't see any more attacks under him either but now we have a plethora of them and the middle east is in crisis...but don't worry he is sending our tax dollars to the terrorist...you support that, right.

Yes, the recovery started right after the stimulus was passed in 2009, but hardly any of the stimulus money had been spent at that point. This means the economy started recovering basically ON ITS OWN without the help of a stimulus. If anything, the stimulus was probably responsible for SLOWING DOWN of the recovery during Obama's first term. We've had the slowest recovery since WWII, I believe. The slow down would have been more pronounced if not for the Fed's quantitative easing, but that's resulted in money printing and inflation. All told, we've burned though at least a trillion dollars worth of stimlus money (all borrowed, by the way) and we're still stuck at 7-8% official unemployment with real unemployment in the double digit percent range. And you think Obama deserves a second term?

When did he EVER mention Fox news...is that ALL you liberals have to say....at least they report the news the mainstream news won't...the other stations didn't even mention Benghazi until after the election and the sex scandal. Oh, but ABC did finally come out and report Patreus said that they knew it was terrorist aLL ALONG as per ABC news.... a half hour after they interviewed a liberal-socialist (previously the democrat party) who reiterated the lie the president told us for two weeks....right after he walked out of the hearings....how stupid do they think we are....actually some are....my parents have one friend that thinks they made the whole thing up....omg.
