Mari,

My hair is short, snow white in front, and I'm not going to color it like 99.9% of women my age do. I'm a Grandmother and I love being one (ages 7 to 20). My hair style is not one that is the typical "Grandmother" cut, it's a bit on the edgy side and up to date, a little like me. My grandchildren keep me that way, young at heart and ready for whatever they want to talk about and believe me they do.

You look great in short hair AND your gray is lovely. Not all women are that fortunate. I do not look good in short hair, but try to keep it no longer than shoulder length. I haven't colored mine yet, really don't want to, but my gray is coming in wild!

Oh, thank you for the compliment, Cat! I have tried the straightener route but my hair unstraightens within an hour no matter what, even without humidity! It truly has a mind of it's own! I'm thinking about the layers -- but wonder how it will then be contained when I have to have it up for work???

Have you consulted a stylist? Ask around and get a referral. You want someone who can see your hairs potential and give you something that is flattering and functional.

Unfortunately as we age our hair grows slower, so be convinced before you go short.

And post pictures when your done, we want to see!

hope you dont mind my .. I prefer longer hair because i think it makes a woman look more womanly. Short hair makes girls look more boyish in my Op.. but i have some women that just look great with short hair also. Since you're single...i would def recommend trying to find a way to keep it longer..maybe a ponytail or something?

Most men like long hair, I think it's the caveman in them.

Yes Dave, I called you a caveman laughing tongue

I like longer hair on you better. I would go shoulder-length. That length is also quite versatile - it doesn't take too long to style but at the same time can be pulled back whenever you want.

Aw, thank you very much! I appreciate all the suggestions and ideas! I usually cut my own hair as well as everyone in the family's hair -- you can see pics of the cuts on my fb but I didn't want to clutter up my account here. I think I will actually go to a good specialist this time since I truly don't know what to do with this curly hair when it gets long, except ponytails or headbands or butterfly clips.

Hi Rachel, first of all you have a Lovely smile and great eyes and you could get away with short and/or long.

It is true though that many men like long hair and people I think in general. I have always gotten more compliments on my hair long than short.

I don't think after we hit the age of 40 we need to go short nor have I ever heard anyone complain about people in their late 60s, 70s or older with long hair. It's how you take care of it and style it biggrin

I have had many types of hairstyles from the real short to the short bop to the midlength, etc. Friends obviously didn't like my short cuts as they said I looked like my brothers eyepopping Looking back, they were right. I cut it off short and then I always end up growing it out which takes another year or two and that's when I get compliments.

So, I am going to keep my long hair as for me it is easier to throw it up if I am in a hurry. Maybe someday I will do the short again, but not short layers, more of a style than just short.

Now like you I had straight hair until my 20s, I mean stick straight. Wow, who would have known straight is in as I curled it with perms and hot irons. Now it is curly in the back and my bangs are stick straight and now I have to flatten it to get the straight.

Anyway, as far as layers, you really have to watch out for layers and curly hair. From my experience, your hair will go everywhere and it is hard to manage. What I do is make sure you have a good hairstylist and say I want it thinned, but No defined layers. I have my kids do the over-the-counter Keratin treatments which puts shine to your hair and does get rid of the frizz. I don't flat iron it everyday as that would be bad, but when I do I use a protectant. But I like to go on my dates with it long and straight silky hair wink

Some friends said I needed a hairmaker and I take advice without critism, because that's what friends are for, right? Anyway it was cute when I got home my kids said Wow and called my girlfriends and said Thanks, you made my mom look like a Hot mama laughing Now that's a confidence booster, hehe. Kid's won't lie normally;)

I'm wondering what to do with my hair and open to ideas! I had straight hair until my 20's and then it became progressively curlier. I used to always have it short -- I was always in the pool swimming laps or on the road running and training so it was easier. Now it's getting long and so curly! I don't know what to do with it. I want to not spend a long time fixing it each day but I want to look nice. Many people say once you are 40 you have to go short. I like it long but must pull it up and restrain it for work, which on some days it difficult -- it has a mind of it's own and likes to be free and 'wild' sometimes. What do you think about hair styles that are attractive on the over 40 woman? Anyone what to (gently) give me suggestions? I guess you have to creep on my profile to see me better, though. Who else has curly hair and what do you do? Thank you!!

Hope you found some good suggestions that work and make you happy.. and attractive to the Guys biggrin
