Hi Colette - I'm still waiting to hear about an actual date--have you set it yet? I have to make arrangements with my sister in Reno to come out and stay at my place to watch over my folks, if I can come. I hope all is going well for you--hey--we've passed the 100th day of school, so we're on the "downhill slide" now!!
Everyone makes their own arrangements as far as transportation to get there. We fly into Denver International Airport, and there are shuttle services available that will take you directly from the airport to the YMCA of the Rockies Estes Park Center. I want to say that the shuttle service was about $60 each way, but that could be changed. You arrange for your shuttle bus in advance; the shuttles run throughout the day on a regular schedule, and several people ride together.
You can also make your own lodging arrangements once the event is finalized, or you can try to connect with others who are going, and who might want to share the cost of a room. Lodge rooms will probably run from around $100 to $120 per night. Each room gets a couple breakfast tickets for each day (breakfast buffet). Buffet dinners in the evening cost about $14, or sandwiches and salads are also available in a small deli.
For gear, we had a list of suggested what to bring items from the first Rocky Mt Adventure. Hiking boots that are already broken in, a day pack, and some warm clothing are among the definite "to bring" items. Once we have dates finalized and as we get closer I'm sure we'll have the list posted again in a new Rocky Mt Adventure forum... keep watching for it, and we hope you can make it!
As Michael has posted, I'm still waiting for word about the shuttles. I called the Estes Park Free Shuttle Service today, and they told me the shuttle starting date still has not been decided upon. The woman I talked to told me to call back at the end of January, and that hopefully the budget will be resolved then.
Michael, Allen, Debbie, Ann, Juli, Zoe, Roseanna, Jayne, and other returnees, we hope to see all of you out in CO once again. Ann... Tom and I are not sure if we will be driving or flying for this year's event. So at this time we're not ready to think about a rental car. But when the event is posted on the CM events page, you may want to post about sharing a rental car then in addition to posting here.
Plans are also in the works for Tom's and my wedding at The Chapel on the Rock (St. Malo's). We just need to take the Pre-Cana classes, have a letter from our parish priest sent out there, and all will be set.
What exciting news!
