Thanks for the advice. I feel my calling is towards marriage. I do pray for my future husband and have been writing to him since I was about 20. 2 people have casually mentioned the nunnery over the years but that doesn't mean that it is my calling. I was praying the Rosary earlier and trying to accept God's will. I was crying about it. Someone said it is like getting married. You shouldn't get married if you don't want to do it. However, I am praying about it and looked up information online. I think I'd make a wonderful mother if that is my calling. I'm sure I'd do fine in the nunnery, too. At this point in my life I don't feel called to the nunnery. My mom even said that I'd have the desire to do it. I don't have the desire, but I have to be sure. I've spoken with many people here and they say I'm called to marriage. I'm in the middle of a Novena praying for my future husband but now I am praying that I will be able to accept his will. I went to adoration, too this evening. This afternoon the thought of being a nun made me panic and I even cried about it. This is not how someone should feel. Can you imagine a bride walking down an isle crying? It is supposed to be the happiest day of her life. I feel that I am overthinking this, but I don't want to say no to Jesus if he wants me to be a nun.
Good evening, Marita. I think the best thing to do here is not to get bogged down in the particulars of vocations, but to remember a simple truth that God spoke for all of us:
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink,
or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds in the sky;
they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns,
yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are not you more important than they?
Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?
Why are you anxious about clothes?
Learn from the way the wild flowers grow.
They do not work or spin.
But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor
was clothed like one of them.
If God so clothes the grass of the field,
which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow,
will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?
So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?'
or 'What are we to drink?' or 'What are we to wear?'
All these things the pagans seek.
Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
But seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given you besides.
Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.
Sufficient for a day is its own evil."
~Matthew 6: 25-34
Don't let yourself become anxious by trying to find definitive answers to the big questions of your ultimate future right now. The realities of where and with whom you may end up may well be a long way from being manifested in your life. That's OK. Embrace the promptings of the Holy Spirit in the small decisions you face every day, and you'll feel the joy of Mary's fiat. And along the way you'll often be amazed at the wonders God will work in your life. I guarantee it. :)
