Raising the minimum wage

Feb 17th 2013 new

I'm suprised that I haven't seen any topics on this thus far. It is funny how Obama is using this now to make himself look better to the uneducated because surely he knows better. Raise minimum wage and it causes inflation and job loss. Raise minimum wage and with inflation and the higher cost for everything, it is the equivalent of never getting a pay increase for that person while for everyone else it just means higher prices.

I'm not a big fan of "solutions" which include raising the minimum wage. IF people want more money, stay in school, get an education, work harder or get a better job.

Sure, a person might not be able to get an education because they can't manage the grades, or because they can't afford it and student loans aren't available. That's unfortunate, welcome to life, its not fair. Don't buy a new PlayStation or book a trip to Europe.

Wages should be left up to the boss/company's manager. Why? Because they know what's coming in and what's going out. Forcing a company to pay more to people who aren't educated enough or who are lazy only causes damage to the profits of the company and could cause it to shut down. Quite frankly, people with not a lot going for them expect to much, its like how a 16 year expects [and in NZL will get] adult minimum wage. Members of my generation, not all, but the unfortunate majority, seem to think that working at McD's or some other "lesser" place is beneath them and they should walk out of school/uni and into a high powered seven figured salary with a company car. And frankly, society should not be forcing high wages to be paid for certain jobs, it only encourages naive teenagers to quit school and stay working in a supermarket or whereever because 14$ an hour is a fortune bro!!!

Of course, I'm a firm beleiver that Capitalism is garbage and is a flawes system that cannot be corrected in any way to be fair and just to all people. As long as we tolerate this system there will still be poor people, people who work hard and get crud all money, people who are lazy and get too much, people who suffer and people who step on the rest of us.

And don't get me started about dole bludgers....

Try not to let Obama go down this road, it'll only dig you guys deeper into your current finanical hole.

Surely he knows better?

Obummer is an economic ignoramus. His mush head ideas come from what only can be described as "Utopian Socialism"

The guy has never really worked for a living. He has never had to meet a payroll, or figure out to compete in the market place. The only "work" he has ever done came from doing things where the funds came from either Government tax revenue or donations from people who do not give out of true charity but out of guilt resulting from guilt trips laid on them by shysters.

Capitalism is garbage?

Come now, it is the only system that has actually delivered a better life to the largest number of people. No other system ever tried by man has done as well.

Unbridled capitalism is one thing. It is not good because it is exploitive of the many for the benefit of the few. Controlled capitalism which tries to level the playing field so the majority are not exploited by the few, is the aim and what has been so successful.

Some societies have introduced some forms of socialism in trying to level the playing field to eliminate exploitation. Some of that is not bad. In many places they don't call it socialism but social justice programs. What ever they are called if they go too far, as is so common in most of Europe, what you end up with is chronic high unemployment and almost confiscatory high taxes, not just on the rich but everyone even the poor they ostensible are trying to help.

Your comments are quite interesting, Naomi. Not sure what "dole bludgers" are, but I suppose they would be
people who stay on the dole?

If Capitalism is not your idea of a good system, then what do you propose?

Obama has no experience as you are saying. Sometimes I wonder where he gets all these ideas, like raising the
minimum wage and gun control. He never spoke about them before. Whoever is manipulating his strings must
have a huge agenda, and is using his pushy personality to implement them.

The sooner they get rid of Obamacare, the better off our country will be. Now that personal insurance costs
are doubling, the real sting of Obamacare is hitting.

I doubt we will be able to do anything about it. When the republicans try they will look like those evil dudes who don't care about the average guy. Unfortunately, I think this was part of his purpose. He is just so unpopular that he is trying to win some points and look good and most people are unenducated and don't realize it is really just harming us.
