Elizabeth, the ads are based on what the computer user has previously viewed. For example, I needed to buy a lawn mower tire for my riding lawn mower. I googled "lawn mower tire" and one of the "hits" was Sears. I clicked on the Sears website and ordered a lawn mower tire. SO, the ad in my upper right hand corner of the screen is from Sears for "lawn mower tires". Everybody's ad is different, according to their browsing history. If someone used your computer to browse a "porn site", most likely that is what is displayed in the upper right hand corner of the screen. CM has NO control over the ads that display...however the computer user does.

Since I have not been to those websites before and my processor is a rebuilt one could it be something that was viewed by the previous owner.

I would like to correct that statement and say that I have not navigated those websites at all.

Hi Elizabeth,,
just want to clarify..CM does not solicit or support those Ads that pop up in the right corner. If you see an Ad that is Inappropriate please copy and paste the link on a Help Ticket and send to Admin. Also as Joan stated, the Ads you're seeing can also be from words "similar" to ones you or anyone else has typed into the Search bar previously.
To clear out "cookies" and previously stored web pages you have to clear the history in your web browser... ie Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome..etc.
Hope that helps. biggrin Praying

Hi Elizabeth,
It is possible that there is some keyword that the Google ads captured from your browsing that are used to show ads only remotely related to what you are browsing. It may not necessarily be related to a previous owner at all. For example, CM is a Catholic dating site, and there are a few other Catholic/Christian dating sites. If you browse for those, the Google keyword may be "dating" and the next thing you know, the ads on CM are for all kinds of sites that a practicing Catholic may find offensive that relate to the word "dating". Another example is just keywords like "faith" or "religion" - I have had ads on CM for a Protestant bible college training program for ministers "Become a Minister in just a few short months". I have also had ads for orthopedic nylons, just due to a Google search for household uses for pantyhose. laughing rolling eyes

To support what others have said, I have seen ads on CM for wheelchair adapted vans .... no doubt because I have done several searches for them in the last couple of months. Actually rented one when I was in Memphis for Memorial Day weekend with some friends. Rolling Along

I am also noticing the ads cover up the Favorites On Line feature and the drop down menu which includes both Help and Sign Out.. This is very annoying.

Marian,, that's interesting.. are you having that problem on a portable device or your Desktop.
When using my desktop the Ads appear all the way to the right above the "our blog" column...but does not block anything.  I have not checked what it looks like on my Iphone. If you're using a device like an iphone or ipad maybe that is something to send in a Help Ticket on. smile scratchchin

You can find this questions asked multiple times here in the forums and in FAQ's. If there is an ad that you feel is inappropriate please submit a ticket to customer service with a link to where the ads goes plus a quick description as to what you feel makes it inappropriate. It will be reviewed and likely blocked through Google. We do not pick the ads however we do use the highest settings Google provides for filtering out ads in poor taste which is why some get through. When we find them we can manually block them.

If you are having a technical problem with ads interfering on the site please submit a help ticket for your particular situation.
