I don't consider myself desperate because I am open to a LDR. I have the resources to travel and would be open to relocating if necessary.
so just because you are not open to a LDR please don't assume that only "desperate" people are.
What kind of a comment is that?
I would travel to the moon for the right person. Does that make me desperate?
Look at the pictures of the CM couples who have capped off their long-distance relationships with a Catholic marriage; they look like attractive couples to me, and hardly examples of "desperation."
The short answer to your question is "No, distance is not a factor."
The long answer to your question is that an on-line relationship is very difficult in the sense that we don't know if we really have an interest in that person until we meet each other. The further apart two people are, the more expensive and time-consuming it will be to get together.
Having said that, if there are events where large numbers of Catholic singles get together, and you are willing to make the trip to one of these events, the chances of having an LDR with someone interested in you from that meeting are very high.
I could not imagine thinking, "She's exactly who I have been searching for, but she lives in Canada."
If you spark an interest in a man, distance is meaningless.
