Haven't seen it and movies are often more ambiguous than they first appear, but for what it's worth, the Toronto Star review notes: "Its no accident that the procedure itself takes place on Valentines Day". If memory serves, the real-life Canadian abortionist, Dr. Henry Morgentaler, had one of his 'procedures' filmed or broadcast on Mother's Day, which I suppose takes the joke even further.

Perhaps Obvious Child can run on a double bill with another just-released film, Roman Polanski's Venus in Fur, of which one reviewer writes: "Thankfully, there's real depth of feeling and playful perversion shared between Seigner and Amalric, who give already unusual material a wicked spin".
