Surprise! The USA Is Cooling!

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administrations most accurate, up-to-date temperature data confirm the United States has been cooling for at least the past decade. The NOAA temperature data are driving a stake through the heart of alarmists claiming accelerating global warming.
Responding to widespread criticism that its temperature station readings were corrupted by poor siting issues and suspect adjustments, NOAA established a network of 114 pristinely sited temperature stations spread out fairly uniformly throughout the United States. Because the network, known as the U.S. Climate Reference Network (USCRN), is so uniformly and pristinely situated, the temperature data require no adjustments to provide an accurate nationwide temperature record. USCRN began compiling temperature data in January 2005. Now, nearly a decade later, NOAA has finally made the USCRN temperature readings available.
According to the USCRN temperature readings, U.S. temperatures are not rising at all at least not since the network became operational 10 years ago. Instead, the United States has cooled by approximately 0.4 degrees Celsius, which is more than half of the claimed global warming of the twentieth century.
Of course, 10 years is hardly enough to establish a long-term trend. Nevertheless, the 10-year cooling period does present some interesting facts.

First, global warming is not so dramatic and uniform as alarmists claim. For example, prominent alarmist James Hansen claimed in 2010, Global warming on decadal time scales is continuing without letup effectively illustrat[ing] the monotonic and substantial warming that is occurring on decadal time scales. The word monotonic means, according to Merriam-Webster Online, having the property either of never increasing or of never decreasing as the values of the independent variable or the subscripts of the terms increase. Well, either temperatures are decreasing by 0.4 degrees Celsius every decade or they are not monotonic.
Second, for those who may point out U.S. temperatures do not equate to global temperatures, the USCRN data are entirely consistent with and indeed lend additional evidentiary support for the global warming stagnation of the past 17-plus years. While objective temperature data show there has been no global warming since sometime last century, the USCRN data confirm this ongoing stagnation in the United States, also.
Third, the USCRN data debunk claims that rising U.S. temperatures caused wildfires, droughts, or other extreme weather events during the past year. The objective data show droughts, wildfires, and other extreme weather eventshave become less frequent and severe in recent decades as our planet modestly warms. But even ignoring such objective data, it is difficult to claim global warming is causing recent U.S. droughts and wildfires when U.S. temperatures are a full 0.4 degrees Celsius colder than they were in 2005.
Even more importantly than the facts above, the USCRN provides the promise of reliable nationwide temperature data for years to come. No longer will global warming alarmists be able to hide behind thinly veiled excuses to doctor the U.S. temperature record. Now, thanks to the USCRN, the data are what the data are.
Expect global warming alarmists, now and for the foreseeable future, to howl in desperation claiming the USCRN temperature data are irrelevant.
Of course, to global warming alarmists, all real-world data are irrelevant.

Brisbane, Australia has coldest temperature in 103 years...now that's climate change!
tinyurl.com
Excerpt:
If you are lucky enough to be reading this from the comfort of your blankets, it might be best to stay there, as Brisbane has hit its coldest temperatures in 103 years.
Not since July 28 1911 has Brisbane felt this cold, getting down to a brisk 2.6C at 6.41am.
At 7am, it inched up to 3.3C.
Matt Bass, meteorologist from BOM, said the region was well below our average temperatures.
If it felt cold, thats because it was, breaking that record is pretty phenomenal for Brisbane, Bass said.
The average for this time of year is 12C, so Brisbane was about 9C below average, it is pretty impressive really, to have the coldest morning in 103 years is a big record.

This is all comforting to know. It is pretty scary when one turns on the news and

sees all those wildfires rampant out West. The tornado situation seems to

be getting worse and worse. They are so lethal and deadly.

I just read an article saying soot from wildfires may be a much large threat to

our atmosphere. This is usually not mentioned by climate control freaks.

Ask any supporter of Global Warming why the name changed to Climate Change and they really have some silly answers. If the climate has really been warming, keep the name Global Warming. The truth is, they had to change the name to Climate Change to save face and to keep the funding and political power coming. The liberal media is on board because Global Warming/Climate Change is an important vote-getter for the Democrats. Let not the truth get in the way.

This study seems to show the hypocrisy amongst the Global Warming believers. This reminds me of Al Gore scolding everyone about energy use while using 20 times the national average of electricity at 1 of his several homes. Do as I say, not as I do.

tinyurl.com
Article:
People who claim to worry about climate change use more electricity than those who do not, a Government study has found.
Those who say they are concerned about the prospect of climate change consume more energy than those who say it is too far into the future to worry about, the study commissioned by the Department for Energy and Climate Change found.
That is in part due to age, as people over 65 are more frugal with electricity but much less concerned about global warming.
However, even when pensioners are discounted, there is only a weak trend to show that people who profess to care about climate change do much to cut their energy use.
The findings were based on the Household Electricity Survey, which closely monitored the electricity use and views of 250 families over a year. The report, by experts from Loughborough University and Cambridge Architectural Research, was commissioned and published by DECC.
Those surveyed were asked if they agreed or disagreed with the statement: The effects of climate change are too far in the future to really worry me.
The researchers wrote: Taken all together, householders who strongly agreed they were not worried about climate change because it was too far in the future in fact used less electricity rather than more, counter to the hypothesis that households concerned about climate change use less electricity.
However, we found this was largely due to the effect of age, as older households were much more likely to agree with this statement, and also had lower energy consumption.
When we separated the pensioner households from the younger ones, there was no significant relationship between this statement and energy use in the pensioner group, and only a weak trend among younger households."
Curiously, peoples claims about trying to avoid leaving appliances on when not in the room had no discernible effect on the hours of TV being on, but were significant for computers being on.
This means that policy makers cannot rely on stated behaviours alone in assessing the extent to which households turn off unused appliances, the report noted.
The findings will strengthen the case of those who argue that more coercive methods are needed if peoples energy consumption is to be reduced.
Peter Lilley, a Conservative member of the Commons Energy and Climate Change committee, said: The survey exposes the hypocrisy of many who claim to be green: the greater the concern people express about global warming the less they do to reduce their energy usage.

The "lack of warming" is seen in multiple data sets.

The pause continues Still no global warming for 17 years 9 months
2014/06/04/the-pause-continues-still-no-global-warming-for-17-years-9-months/
"According to the RSS satellite data, whose value for May 2014 has just been published, the global warming trend in the 17 years 9 [months] since September 1996 is zero "

Add a test for statistical significance and the period of "no warming" extends back even farther:

"there has been no global warming statistically distinguishable from zero for more than 26 years."
2014/07/03/rss-shows-no-global-warming-for-17-years-10-months/

2014/07/05/giss-is-unique-now-includes-may-data/
For UAH (satellite):
The slope is flat since January 2005 or 9 years, 5 months. (goes to May)
There is no statistically significant warming since February 1996: CI from -0.017 to 2.347.

For Hadcrut4:
The slope is flat since January 2001 or 13 years, 5 months. (goes to May)
There is no statistically significant warming since October 1996: CI from -0.010 to 1.215.

For Hadcrut3:
The slope is flat since September 2000 or 13 years, 9 months. (goes to May)

For GISS:
The slope is flat since September 2004 or 9 years, 9 months. (goes to May)
There is no statistically significant warming since December 1999: CI from -0.004 to 1.413.

Even "warmists" agree the "no warming" period is there.

"No statistically significant warming since 1995." (Dr. Phil Jones; warmist; disgraced former head of CRU)
Article written 13 February 2010; presumably Jones would be willing to extend his conclusion to cover the latest 4 years wherein the decline is more noticeable.

The tornado situation could just be more people building in the path of them. Its analogous to setting speed traps on a freeway. The more traps you have, the more speeders you catch. It doesn't mean there are more speeders or that those who were caught were more brazen, it just means you caught more. The tornadoes are the same, they aren't any more common than they used to be, nor any more severe than they used to be, but now there is more development in their paths, and therefore greater risk of them hitting populated areas.

The wildfires are the result of a process that began decades ago. Trees got infected with mistletoe, bark beetles, and other parasites. These stretches didn't get logged when the wood was good, now they're so badly rotted and bored (by beetles and carpenter ants etc.) that they're no good for anything but firewood, but they're still not being harvested. Then all it takes is either a lightning strike, or human carelessness and nature thins the trees out by burning down all the dead ones, and any that were close enough to have been infected.

Hurricane Katrina wasn't the first Category 5 to hit the gulf coast of the USA, but it was the first to come in on just the right path to hit New Orleans.

And of course there's still Jupiter and Mars. Those planets have not had any measurable change in their atmospheric content, and have experienced identical warming and cooling trends to the Earth since the 1970s. What cause for "Climate Change" does that suggest?

Can't speak to the Tornados, but I hear that they happen every year. They would have us believe they are a new phenomenon
