The Porn Effect

I spent 10 hours yesterday consoling a woman whose husband chose porn over her and their kids. I am absolutely sickened by this family "destruction machine". I am tired, very tired, of the effects of pornography and would like to hear from the CM MEN as to what THEY are doing to stop this epidemic!!
Above is a Catholic website; the efforts of Chris Evert and Matt Fradd, to stop pornography use. Why am I, a woman, posting this information? Where are the CM men, who are primarily effected by the use of pornography? Why are the CM men not publicizing this information?
Many thanks to Chris and Matt for their efforts. Too bad there aren't men like Chris and Matt on CM.

A man starts with himself---by not looking at porn.

I always wonder how many Catholic guys watch it regularly. Obviously a man who's entrenched in it, especially considering the effects it has on the brain, isn't going to be motivated to speak out about it. But I don't know why the men who don't watch it aren't more vocal. Pornography of any kind makes life worse for all of us, male and female, but it seems like the guys are more vocal about smut like 50 Shades than they are about pornography that exploits real live people. Surely we should all be outraged by any kind of porn and all of it.

I find it disturbing too but at least many of them do disapprove silently, I gather. It could be better but it could also be even worse.

Thanks, Jean. My point exactly.

This is a subject way too complicated and far reaching to cover it all. I read the other posts and wanted to throw in something I find very discouraging. Priests at an extremely conservative parish have voiced the fact that even there, a very large percentage of men in the confessionals have problems with and addictions to porn. I know we are all sinners, no matter our Mass preference, political views, lifestyles...etc. But this to me was a reality check. Its an epidemic no one is immune to. Going way back in time, you can read about filth and how people were involved with it, its not really new. What is new is the way technology increasingly spreads and infects more and more. Its all too easy now, to view and hide. It destroys families when it is discovered. Many men don't seem to realize the devastating effects it has on his wife and children. Men, ask yourselves, is this what you would want your daughters or sisters growing up to do? Of course not! So why don't you have that respect for all women and not help fuel the industry? These women are someone else's daughters and sisters and so on. Women who are willingly involved are just as guilty. And I do not accuse all men. I just can't help but believe there a very few men left who aren't involved with this. For the ones who are truly struggling against it, not involved at all, or have broken their addictions, keep fighting the good fight! And for all the ladies hurt by this, just know you are worth so much more than all this. Continually ask Jesus and Mary to comfort and heal your hearts. Of course everyone involved needs spiritual healing.

I forgot to add a little helpful advice to this, take it or leave it. Our priests suggest very good filters on all computers and technological devices, of course. Also for an accountability factor, only the lady of the house should be able to control all streaming media on all computers and laptops, so she alone has the password. No child, especially teenage or preteen boys should be allowed on the internet without filters, supervision, and parental guards up. Your children should also know what websites and channels on tv are acceptable. I have a simple rule of no random flipping or surfing channels at all. They know which ones are approved of and can go to directly (which are few, unfortunately, but books and other indoor/outdoor activities are better anyway.) =) Be cautious about your kid's friends and what their own families are doing to protect them. If a family is doing nothing to filter whats coming into their house, do you really want your child there? Keep computers in open common places, not in bedrooms or behind closed doors. Some may think these are extreme "rules" but keep in mind porn is an extreme problem. If you and your family are serious about fighting against it, you have to be vigilant. Of course, nothing is fool proof, but as they say "if your fighting, your not sinning."
