Here's a poem I wrote long ago (the year after college) Wow, that was a while ago...
Just a Kiss
I built a house of stone, standing on the cliffs
but now I'm standing all alone, my heart has been transfixed
torn to its foundation the building is no more
amid the desolation I gazed at wildflowers on the shore
They threw a party in the ruins
we danced all night to the tunes
'til dawn cloaked the stars with a sky so red
spilled like blood, freshly bled
an image burned in me forever more
of wildflowers on the shore
What you have within your heart
you share with me ere I depart
A gift of love, a glimpse of light
will shine within me every night
I'll keep the moment in my soul
and treasure it like some precious gem
'cause something sacred happened here
I'll never be the same again
and now I must leave this place
with just a kiss, no other trace
'till once again we're face to face
abiding in this blinding grace.
On C M you might find a date
who read your profile & just couldn’t wait
To see your real face
And pray with some grace
That you’ll both want the marital state!
Great one, Mary!
Tried to post my poem in stanzas but it didn't format correctly.
Yeah, the forum (and email) formatting here is not terribly accomodating for poets... I'd love to see your poem as it is meant to be.
My little grandson is silent
with words locked up inside
so when he needs something
he tells me with his eyes
or grabs me by the finger
sometimes by the pants too
and quickly pulls me over to
just what he wants to do
We see his therapist weekly
she teaches what to do
to help unlock the silence
of this little child of two
progress comes in little steps
some days, not very much
but he's a happy little guy
and clearly in no rush!
