People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered;
Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies;
If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.
What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;
If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you've got anyway.
You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God;
It was never between you and them anyway.
praise God everything that happens to you. For it is certain that whatever happens to you, if you thank and praise God for it, you turn it into blessing.
My boss shared this with me last weekend, just in time for the Irish celebration at the Renaissance Festival...
AN IRISH PRAYER
May those who love you, love you.
And those that don't love you
May God turn their hearts.
And if he cannot turn their hearts,
May he turn their ankles
So that we may know them by their limping.
The Necessity of Trials
If everything had gone smoothly, just as you envisioned, wouldn't you have become very complacent? Would you really have depended on the Lord so much? Would you really have known that He's the one doing it all? You might think that you could have done without those setbacks and problems and persecutions--but you are wrong. You needed them.
The Temptation to Despair
Any temptation to despair is not of God, and you need to remember that the enemy wants you to despair. Know your enemy. He's not handing you roses, he's handing you hell. So be careful of any kind of despair. These temptations come directly from the liar, the enemy who was a liar from the beginning. He cannot give truth. He cannot give beauty. He can't give you anything that is good. He wants to take that good away from you. The only thing he can do to a human being to encourage him to despair--what a waste of time it is to listen to a liar. Listen to the Lord, pray for the grace to overcome the temptation, and keep moving.

A comforting poem by Emily Dickinson:
"And if I go, while you are still here.
Know that I live on, vibrating to a different measure,
behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me so you must have faith.
I can't wait for the time when we can soar together again, both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to the fullest and when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart... I will be there."
Beautiful, Colette! I love Emily Dickinson.
