Well, the Great Society and later programs fit the plan of an ignorant, post-industrial welfare society. A dumbed-down population is easier to manipulate.

Just a little question, Bernie and others ....

If Lyndon Johnson's Great Society was [supposed to be] so great, why do we have more people on welfare, food stamps, and government assistance than we had when Johnson instigated/promulgated that nonsense?

scratchchin

My contention is there is no government on the face of this earth that can help others in need like the human heart of compassionate individuals. We deserve what we get with electing progressives of Johnson's ilk. Ugh! rolling eyes

Here's the thing, assistance was needed in the Great Depression because people were suffering. Even today we need social programs because there are people who fall through the cracks. However, having said that, welfare for all its good intentions caused a lot of problems we see today. We know have an underclass who relies on welfare as a career, when it was never met for that. We also have a system where out of wedlock births are on the increase. Those were the negative aspects of the safety net.
