Here is one that I think is funny...and Leon will probably remember it. Back when the Tampa Bay Bucs were an "Expansion (new) Team" in the mid to late 70's...the owner....Hugh Culverhouse (I think his name was) wanted a prolific coach. So he chose John McKay....who for years was an outstanding coach at USC. And they won....as a matter of habit. And, Coach McKay took the school to many Rose Bowls.
His college coaching prowess however...did not carry over to the young Buccaneers team. In fact....Mckay would have to endure MANY losses in a row. And I am not 100 per cent sure...but for years at least...they had the longest losing record of any NFL club.
As he tried to remain positive....he took them into a home game...and felt good about his chances of finally winning one. They did not! After yet another 37-7 drubbing he was greeted by a reporter who was an "in your face" kind of guy (in the locker room) and on the radio. He said, "Coach we heard you supposedly had the team prepared....but instead had to shoulder yet another big loss. What do you think about the execution of your team?" John Mckay was so "dry" in his delivery...and did not miss a beat...saying: "That's a thought!"
(yours truly was LMAO at that one!!!)

Jerry,

I heard the story, with another statement. After McKay was asked about the execution of his team, the response was:"I'm in favor of it"!

Either way,it is a classic story.Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

SURVEY QUESTION:If you moved across the country, would you maintain your current rooting interest?

There are a number of us who relocate, during the course of our lifetimes. Many people retain loyalty to their

original team.Other people will only support the team that is in closest proximity(it doesn't matter how long

they were fans of the team,in their previous state).

I know that in certain small markets(Green Bay,Pittsburgh, for example),the local fan base pressure, can be overwhelming.

Here in South Florida,I have seen people who support almost every team. This area is transient in nature(I have ex-New Yorkers

on both sides of my house).

What action would you take?

Okay....story time:

I have always felt Lawrence Taylor was arguably the best defensive player to ever play the game. He played linebacker on the outside...and was a "specialist" at getting after quarterbacks. The 6'2 or 6'3 player weighed in at just over 240 but had the quickness of a cat. An ALL-AMERICAN standout at North Carolina he was drafted by the N.Y. Giants. Most statisticians would agree that Taylor tallied up the most "sacks" of any one defensive player...BEFORE they actually started keeping track. ( Reggie White I believe was #1 after they started counting) All OFFENSIVE players feared his aggressive "run over, around and through" style; particularly quarterbacks who he destroyed (just ask Joe Theisman) Not many lineman...let alone running backs or tight ends could handle this guy.

ONE lineman on the Dallas Cowboys could handle him (guess I need to qualify this) but not as a rule. Taylor would find ways to beat anyone. But this lineman was an ALL-Pro guard named Herb Scott. I met Herb on a business deal once....and it was the week before we were to play the N.Y. Giants here. So I said, "Herb...what is the game plan this week....generally?" Herb looked at me and said, "Well I know what mine is.....DON'T LET #56 GET TO THE QUARTERBACK!" I laughed but he was serious. His play was too. He handled Taylor that Sunday and we won!
