..dark nights...

Dark nights
travel like a whispering shadow
that fill and consume
the
light that
spills radiantly over
the dry and barren land

enveloping
all
that it touches
breaths are bated
and shallow

hearts thump a
slow
sonorous tune as if to say
help, alas I fall
surrounded within
darks
deadly halls

yet as breath does remain
a flicker of
light
holds the deepest darkness at bay

it's piercing screams
echo
dark and long
fading not into the distance
but to the darkest
depths
of our soul

save me
the cry continues to call
warmth I
need
assurance that you
truly are there

within the saddened
chamber
of my heart
I fight the darkness
yet I am only man
and weak
beyond bearing

your hand of grace
let me feel it's warmth
it's glow
sustain me
as I pass through
this dark night of my soul

Very beautiful Kelly. I also have one that has similar theme, but just later. I will give others the space. People said "Poetry is the language of the Soul."

ACCEPTANCE

The piercing pain of an austere reality

shut these tiring eyes with fragile tears,

dumb these lips with bitter sighs, aghast!

carries this puzzled mind into the chaos of emptiness:

loneliness.

Into the vast darkness of the universe

floats innocuously this escapee;

but then a rushing current carries me

twirling and tossing this wandering mind

into the galaxy, a glittering beauty of raging warmth:

a deceitful sight!

My fallen past keeps beckoning this haunted soul.

The echoing laughter engulfs my entire being,

crushing and squeezing this vile self into peices,

then scattering my parts into the world of nothingness.

I must return then to where I came from,

than to lose myself with the mysteries of the universe,

for acceptance is truth, a gift of freedon and peace of minds:

a complete surrender to an agonizing realities.

Found this a long time ago and sent it to a friend who lost her beloved dog:

I explained to St. Peter,
 I'd rather stay here,

Outside the Pearly Gate.

I won't be a nuisance,
 I won't even bark,

I'll be very patient and wait.

I'll be here chewing on a celestial bone,

No matter how long you may be.

I'd miss you so much, if I went in alone,

It wouldn't be Heaven for me…
