Interesting article about Post-Christian America by a Fr. McCloskey III. It states that America will either become predominantly Catholic or it will perish! And, it maintains that Protestantism cannot do anything to save the country as it is in serious decline. Here's the link:
I would say that Fr. McCloskey hit the nail right on the head.
I had read a piece some time ago that pointed out that Protestantism ceased to be a thinking person's religion at the end of the 19th century; the whole idea of "Sola Scriptura" simply couldn't stand the test of reason. Although the wealth and influence of the United States gave it a shot in the arm and a new lease on life, it is still doomed; we witnessed a large step in its demise this year when it became official that Protestants are now a minority in the United States: www.bloomberg.com.
They have contracepted themselves into irrelevance.
As Catholics, we should be applauding the demise of a heresy at the same time we recognize that the cultural landscape we increasingly find ourselves in is not that much different than the one the French and Spanish met when they set out in the seventeenth century to convert the souls of the native peoples of the Western Hemisphere.
