Someone very close to me was driving drunk when his truck started spinning out of control. He knew he was going to crash and at the speed he was going he would probably die. He laid down on the seat and prayed. He said it was if someone took the steering wheel and applied the brakes as he came to a complete and safe stop just along assure the road. That was the last time he drank, nearly 45 years ago.

May 3, 1999 my big brother was living in Moore, I saw the coverage of the mile wide tornado. My Dad called my brother six times before he convinced Gary to get the kids in the car and leave town. The tornado had been heading straight for their home. When it crossed I35 it veered, it missed my brothers house by mere blocks.

Gary volunteered to help with the cleanup, he said it was amazing some of the things he saw. Whole houses gone with one window sill intact with a glass figurine of Mary untouched. From what I understand he saw several things like that while helping clear debree....

I should have been dead several times over:

Teenager ran a red light a few years ago and sent me spinning just stopped short of oncomming traffic.

Got really ill in my 20s and passed out with a brain inflamation they thought it was heart related but it was actually an infection from an insect bite. A specialist familiar with the type of infection recognized it and put me on the right meds. Just short of death. Woke up 4 days later with no memory of the past few days. I had a spinal tap done and everything luckily I don't remember it just the pain later when they had to do a blood patch.

Fell down a gorge when I was twelve by all rights should have broken my legs at least....walked away after landing in a bed of leaves.

I have told this one before...but is appropriate for this thread as well. I was once on a date at age 19. I was dating a young lady whom I had had several dates with off and on. In fact, she remarked one time...."Jerry, your inconsistency is starting to become consistent!"

Anyway we shared a lot time and experienced some strange events. ONE was a "close call" I had taken her to the State Fair of Texas "on the "MIDWAY" which was the "ride" part of the grounds. We climbed in one of 8 cages on the ride called the "Octopus"...with heavy steel arms sticking out and attached to these cages. The ride would rotate AND go "up and down" at the same time. Depending on who the operator was this ride could be rotated very fast! I learned a lesson. Never board a ride where the operator has a tatoo on his arm which says "Born to Lose"!

As we were being rotated very fast and could hear the screams....(especially "K") One could actually HEAR the motor revving up as the operator pushed the lever (pushing the envelope too) While we were rotating I started hearing a metallic "grinding" sound (akin to metal being stressed to it's limits) The sound was very audible (even above the screams) "K" started hearing it too. "What is that?" she asked. I said, "Something wrong....is what it is" She then started screaming as I was yelling at him to let us off. He rotated it full throttle! Huh? Mercifully he stopped the ride. We were the LAST cage to be opened! As I got out I yelled "Did you not HEAR us buddy?!" He just smiled this grin with Sommer teeth (Some er here...some are there!) The very next week I read in the paper (almost to the day) the ride had "thrown" one of the cages! One person was killed...and the other critically wounded I thought (could have died too) The cage was thrown and slid 50 or 60 yards! I called "K" and said, "Did you read the papers?" she said she had just then read the article. (we both just KNEW) that was the cage WE had been in! "K" then said, "Dating you I think is hazardous to my health!" (we still went out after that though)

(I thanked our guardian angels) I also added some humor here because I still "shutter" at what could have been.

I was in my bedroom at the time on the same side of the house where it hit at the time. Thank God it didn't take the house because there was no time to react. We were under a severe weather warning but not tornado warning at the time.....
