As for the socialism part, well, all I can say is to repeat the words of Pope Pius XI in Quadragesimo Anno, "No man can at the same time be a devoted Catholic and a sincere Socialist."

Yet, the supposed leading African Cardinal candidate for the Papacy is an extreme socialist. Although I have read that he has hurt his chances as it appears he has committed one of the cardinal no - nos for a conclave. It appears he has either actively or appeared to actively campaign for the job.

I think that if there is an African, it will be one no one has heard of or Arinze. Turkson is a media-created fiction I suspect, contrived so that the media can say "Catholics are backwards and unwilling to choose a black pope."

Is there merit in praying for the cardinals? Yes. Is there a loss of grace in eating bananas instead, makijng a craft, or considering the needs of the Church? No.

If anyone in this string were suggesting that their discussion would or ought to influence the conclave then we'd have a problem. That we're immersing ourselves in understanding and grasping the challenges and needs of the Church and the concerns of other faithful is a good thing:

Inculturation is a term used in Christianity, especially in the Roman Catholic Church, referring to the adaptation of the way Church teachings are presented to non-Christian cultures, and to the influence of those cultures on the evolution of these teachings.

"It is now acknowledged that inculturation is a theological term which has been defined in Redemptoris Missio 52 as the on-going dialogue between faith and culture." - JPII

I'm a little confused as to why people speculate on who the next Pope will be. There are any number of things we don't know, such as Pope Benedict's instructions for electing his predecessor, as well as what the Holy Spirit has already planned. Only time will tell...

I agree....for me anyway, I'm just going to pray and put it in the cardinals hands guided by the Holy Spirit.

I agree with this article about who will be the nexy Pope , Cardinal Burke has more knowledge of the faith then any other Cardinal. He also has the best Chance at saving the Church in the west. I have listen to him before and he Impressed more then any other Cardinal in my life beside John paul and Benedict. I really think he will carry out benedict's legacy and bring back the Church to where Catholics will be proud to be Catholic. Check this out and see what you think all.www.taylormarshall.com

If had a million dollars, I'd bet a million dollars the Pope will NOT be am American. There is no way they would allow America to have that much power and influence in the world more than we already do....

I'm not sure that would be the case if the US had a person of the caliber of JPII. I love you americans, but your cardinals are not up to snuff. Good, but not great. No one in the US compares with Arinze both inellectually AND pastorally. No one has the soft charisma of Tagle. It's not because you're american. It's because your 18 cardinals do not, despite your might, overshadow the best of the the 97 other cardinals in the world!

I found this interesting article on National Review Online entitled: Will There Be An American Pope

At the end of the article you click on the word Here and it goes into another article entitled:
Jesus for Pope, Jesus for Our Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday …

That may or may not be true. I just can't imagine a scenario where an American cardinal would be selected. Honestly, I wouldn't want that to happen. It would just create so much more animosity towards the US.
