What I do is turn on the Divine Mercy as soon as I get up in the morning. After that, I listen to multiple sets of the Rosary while I am getting ready for work.

When I get home, I do the same thing. I am lucky that I like pretty much all sports. So, I multi-task in the evening. I will turn a game on and mute the sound. Then I will put on a Bible Study or again Divine Mercy and the Rosary.

But, I attempt to surround myself with Christ throughout my day.

God Bless,

Will

If I wake up (with intention of going back to sleep) and thoughts start roaming, I reach over to my iPhone to put on the rosary podcasts. I somehow fall asleep quickly.

Foxnews.com has a current story about "Sex Week" scheduled April 7 - 12 at the University of Tennessee. I don't think Our Lady of Fatima, or her Son, would approve?

Jesus said to us "Be in the world but not of the world.
If your "of the world" your going to have a hard time remaining chaste.
Christopher west mentioned in his series on "Theology of the Body" that true freeedom is the ability to say yes and no when givin a choice.
If you can only say yes to that choice ie acting out on your sexual desires than you are dealing with and addiction.
So guess what, because of contraception and abortion and the media jamming sex, sex, sex down are throats for the last 50 years we have a world full of sex addicts. Women have been reduced to body parts and are dressing accordingly (skin tight yoga pants aren't helping ladies) What we've been told and what we think is just the natural response to sexual longings are actually more the cravings of an addiction. Are brain waves have been twisted and reordered.

What do addicts do to get their fix. They lie twist the truth "It's not a baby, it's a fetus" "What I do in the privacy of my own home's not hurting anyone" They sell out their family often stealing from them ect.. Yeah I love my kids but I really need to have this women in work or watch this pornography, I won't get caught."

So we need to untwist what has been twisted. As some have said trying to be chaste because we don't want to go to hell is not what Our Lord want's. We are approacing God out of fear not in love. Plus it's unhealthy, trying to block out all sexual thoughts all day can lead to anxiety and scuplosity. God put sexual emotion in us he deemed it good. If you see and attractive women the initial emotion of attraction is good it's not a sin. It's what you do with that emotion ie fantasizing about that women with your wife standing right next to you, is where the sin lies.

So how do we be chaste in an unchasted world. Lay it at the foot of the cross. "broad is the path that leads to destruction, narrow is the path that leads to eternal life". What's the broad path, - pride, What's the narrow path - humility. You can't do it yourself. like many have said you must utilize the tools the church has givin us, confession, the Eucharist, Adoration, Our lady, The rosary. Most importantly you have to divorce yourself from "of the world" and draw closer to an intimate relationship with Jesus. Instead of watching inane television or surfing the web, go out in the beautiful world God created for us and read spiritual books. Empty yourself of the culture and fill yourself up with the spiritual. If you draw closer to his sacred heart you will begin to untwist what has been twisted.

Somethings that have helped me. When you get those sexual thoughts swirling around in your head invite Jesus into the thoughts with you.
Sign up for a set hour of adoration if you have perpetual at a church near you. Make it a commitment to be there every week at the same time.
The most powerful for me I joined a catholic men's group called TheKingsmen.org where we meat weekly and talk about these issues. Challenging each other to live a life of virtue. It's important especially as a guy to surround yourself with men who are striving for the same thing you are.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and what helps you to remain chaste. Addiction is something that eventually needs a more and more novel and newer fix. This is why the agenda of those sex weeks mentioned here is including all of those other fetishes and more unusual and depraved areas for the talks. I am not happy to hear about that.
I would like to thank the men who have shared in this thread for sharing their perspective on these issues. The more we bring these concerns and thoughts into the light of Christ, the more He can help us to follow His ways.

They say we are only as sick as our secrets. bringing these matters out into the forum can be a help to each person here if we are willing to learn from and obey God and find His ways to express our sexuality.

Chocolate is my weakness. When i am on a diet being around chocolate tempt me i might not be able to resist at least a bite BUT when i give up chocolate for lent it doesn't matter where i see chocolate even if it was in my plate i will never touch it or feel tempted.

What i wanted to share is, when we are giving our word and promise to God, this should make the difference and there should be no fear of breaking promises. What we need to work on is our relationship with God and our closeness to God.

We cannot avoid to be around temptation all the time. Trials could be everywhere. But we can pray and build our strength to be strong enough to not fall into temptation?!!! it is to believe that what we promised God is more important than what we are tempted to do. When we have the restrictions set in our mind and we believe in them we will never fall. Because this is what we want more than anything else, not because we are forced to do it by our religion or our traditions or our culture but because we were free enough to say this is our choice and our decision. biggrin

Hi Tara:

Wanted to suggest Roman Catholic Sacramentals or Rose Scapular for well-made Scapulars that last for years! They're a tad more $$$ (somewhere between $6-$7 each, but well worth it!).

First time i hear about scapulars i have seen people wearing them but never knew that there is a special reason behind that.

What is Rose Scapular? and what does brown scapular mean. Can someone post a link to see what to look for?

Lots of good advice here. I also wear a brown scapular,( the holy scapular of Our Lady of MT. Carmel), it definitely helps me lead a more chaste life. My Dad an I make them and give them away to willing souls that wish to wear them.

Mine have always been brown... I'm curious about the rose scapular as well! My mom's high school class ring has a scapular inside of it. I always thought it was so cool. She's worn it since, and she's almost 64. Catholic high schools should've kept this tradition. :(
