Sean, if the money is filtered almost directly to support causes in Congress, then how can anyone in America change anything.

Obamacare got in, and it wasn't wanted by the majority.

There have to be halfway decent congressmen and senators to get any meaningful change.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development has been under fire in the past few years because it has given money to organizations whose practices are not in line with Church Teachings. In some instances knowingly giving money to abortion advocates.

Supposedly, the Catholic Bishops of the US has been investigating these issues. In some instances, local Bishops have impounded the money raised locally to control how it was used to avoid these problems.

I don't know to what extent these issues have been resolved. I for one will now donate a dime to them.

CCHD has been under fire for years for allegedly supporting organizations in conflict with the Church. Of course the larger issue is to what extent Catholics know what their money funds. Gay activists are always angry about Church money supporting anti-gay marriage initiatives. My question is how much Church money is supporting gay marriage initiatives. For some strange reason I highly doubt that the LCWR sisters are donating heavily to stop the spread of gay unions.

Does anyone know about the early work and training of Obama which became the
basis of his Community Organizing experience?

Apparently, this training was funded by the Catholic Church.

He went to the Saul Alinsky Industrial Areas Foundation, part of Gamaliel foundation.
This taught the grass roots approach to community organizing which seems to be
socialist.

To have a President with such a socialist, Alinsky-based background is not too good for America.

Oh dear, here we go again with the liberal (and yes, in CM, it most certainly is liberal) usage of the snarl word "socialist". Call someone a socialist (especially Obama), and everyone will love you.

Okay Marianne, what is a socialist? What is your definition of socialism?

Thank you for those articles, Dan. They were most informative, and now I think the Conference of Bishops should
stop funding the CCHD all together, not ust the CCHD funding of ACORN.

The church itself should help poor people, not give to third party organizations that help poor people. Or they
should give to the missionaries who work with the poor. Enough is enough.

My definition (and you love to ask for definitions) of a socialist is someone who acts like a socialist.

Have you or has anyone else read Alinsky's Rules for Radicals? I've thought about picking it up.

Hi Marianne et alia,

Your one sentence "definition" using the same word to define itself is not a definition. Explain how a socialist acts, and what he believes, and what he expects of others.

The sexual revolution largely can be traced to these foundations.

Hi Sean et alia,

I'm curious what evidence you have that the sexual revolution can be traced to these organizations, such as the Ford Foundation. Do you have any evidence to support your contention? The statement that "before Hitler there was Harvard" is ridiculous on its face. Aside from a psychological profile done for the OSS by Harvard psychologists in 1943, what evidence is there that Harvard had any connection to fascism? Using "evidence" from far right (or far left) websites is almost always a bad idea. Any evidence contained therein is almost always skewed in such a way as to put the facts in the worst possible light.

It's interesting that the University of Chicago was included in the list of "sinful" universities. Actually, that might be not such a bad idea. In addition to any purported "liberal" professors and students, the University of Chicago was the home of Friedrick Hayek, Milton Friedman, and Leo Strauss, arguably the father of neoconservatism. Friedman's Chilean students, a subset of the "Chicago boys" helped to run Pinochet's dictatorship. Hayek thinks that at times a temporary dictatorship is desirable. And these are all guys the far right love.

In summary, use credible sources of information. Keep in mind that nowadays, any fool can set up a website and spread the goofiest ideas. And the shotgun approach to some percieved evil rarely works.

James ☺
