Another from here in the Big Buff. Lots of versions over the last 150yrs or so. The newer Springsteen version is awesome, but probably not very authentic. Happy and cheerful though the song is, the Gals in question were actually uh....let's say, ladies of lesser repute in the old canal district, back when this was kind of a wild west town, before it was cool!

Not my home town, but my home state is the title of a song.

Don't know that my hometown is mentioned in any songs, but it does have an interesting story to it. Roger Miller's song "King of the Road," was inspired while Roger Miller was visiting my hometown (long before my time), and drove through a neighborhood called "Garden City." Although it doesn't mention my hometown (the town it does mention is across the country) it does seem to have a connection to my hometown.

"Trailer for sale or rent

No phone, no pool, no pets
I ain't got no cigarrettes,
Ah, but two hours of pushing broom
buys an 8 by 12 floor bedroom
I'm a man of means by no means

Third boxcar midnight train
Destination Bangor Maine
Old worn-out suit and shoes
I don't pay no Union dues
I smoke, old stogies I have found
Short but not too big around
I'm a man of means by no means
King of the Road

I know every engineer on every train
All of their children, and all of their names
And every hand-out in every town
And every lock that ain't locked when no-ones around
