Sam skimmed off half the nail on the left pointer finger and a little circle of tissue below it. No bone, which is good, but messy. Sam took a good look at the boo boo and decided this one was above her pay grade. She wrapped it in a hand towel, (hint for parents- always use a dark towel- less scary for kids), and loaded everybody in the minivan to visit the nice folks in the ER. Nothing to stitch, so they patched it, wrapped it, and called it good. Sam's budding career as a hand model is over- there will probably always be a little divot below the nail if anyone cares to look. In 2-3 weeks she should be able to get her finger wet again, 2-3 months for the nail to regrow. Oh, and she still went to the party and the concert. It just didn't hurt bad enough to warrant sitting home by herself while her family had fun without her.
Sam got multiple lectures on the agony she would be experiencing and prescriptions for big ibuprofen and vicodin. So far, not so bad. Haven't needed the nasty Vicodin- yay! One more thing to be grateful for. Sam hates being doped up more than she dislikes discomfort.
The kids did a great job not panicking. Sam was proud of them! Sam only swore twice- she was proud of that, too.
Today's plans include lunch out, a visit to the Lavender Farm with her kids and a backyard campout with Sam's kids and the neighbor's grandchildren. Let the fun begin!
Friday night, M's friend Heidi came from the Twin Cities. We talked, ate, dranked a few Leinenkugels beers -- Berry Weiss n Summer Shandy mixed w/fresh-squeezed organic lemon -- it actually fizzes! Then this morning we walked to the Farmers Market, found a plant sale, a bank, shopped a bit, then had a late lunch n talked shop and Heidi went home. M proceeded to have a long nap. Heidi and M met almost 10 years ago, which M finds unbelievable.
