Chastity

Hello

What really makes me wonder is the amount of women who don't accept the church teaching concerning chastity and perhaps many might still practice it but in some way not accept in the same tight as the church ? also ladies are many of the men the same way?

I was raised old school where no punches were pulled about "living in sin" and not only was it a horrible unspeakable thing but also setting a bad example as well ......brim stone at it's fiery best!!! in fact it was so unspeakable .... back then all I cared to know or didn't dare ask so somewhere a few decades ago when I was to old for a boy and to young to be a man my dear dad sat me down and gave me the nuts and bolts!

I watched a few videos a day or so before writing this and one priest gave a wonderful talk about "exploring"committed love or taking the safe way by only making "half a commitment" ??? Well he didn't exactly say that but he did make some very good points in a kindly way because the church at times may forget about the single folks it really cares about family life and so my brothers and sisters in Christ lets not be judgmental but share in some positive ,productive and good old / modern widespread enlightenment on this topic With love Paul!

I am just as appalled about the lack of chastity as you. In my geographic area, using the default setting on CM, the percentage of members who do not agree with the churches teaching on chastity is 60% for men and 60% for women. So now you know why the divorce rate is over 50%!! I honestly believe that the lack of chastity contributes to divorce.

About a year ago a CM woman wrote that those who believe in premarital sex are not fit for marriage.

"Default setting on CM" ?

i have to agree with you that that does sound like a pretty huge amount of people who don't believe in chastity previous to marriage. There must be a mistake in that they didn't notice what they'd chosen or perhaps are not understanding the question. i myself have never had an issue with this but have always had housemates (with their own bedrooms) in order to be able to have assistance if and when i have a seizure but of course having housemates who can do so necessitates they be strong enough to actually help with this, thus men. Being Catholic, this also has always necessitated they always be those i would not nor they be interested in any form of physical or marital relationship, thus always a family member or someone much older (i guess that'll have to be much younger soon if i stay single for much longer laughing ). It has had the advantage of no dates ever trying to stay the night, which otherwise when single isn't as easy to enforce when they're pushy. Remember to always meet for your dates and carry a stun gun ladies! mischievous

It comes from:

- less-than-faithful teachings in Catholic schools
- avoidance of "hard words" from the pulpit
- a constant drumbeat in the secular world about the "errors" of Church teaching
- some clergy and religious who actually side with the secular world
- sex-drenched stories on TV and in the movies
- the porn-ification of life

I wouldn't be surprised if an individual hears hundreds of pro-premarital-sex messages for every one that mentions church teaching in a positive light.

Fortunately, CM allows members to search for matches that are "7 of 7."

Living a chaste life has certain freedoms. I was surprised that so many people assumed that I was on birth control . What most didn't know was that I had miscarried 3 times before my daughter was born. Many people expected that I would date when my kids got older. I went on a couple, and was home within an hour or so when the man realized that I was not going to offer myself as dessert. That pretty much turned me away from seeking a life partner. If the the dating game now included premarital sex, guess I can't play! I will not compromise my morals and values, nor would I place myself in a situation where they would be challenged. Now, at 60, I am in the dating pool looking for a lifetime friend turned husband & lover. It is as hard now to date, as it was 30 yeas ago. The gift now that I can offer a prospective spouse is that my fidelity to God by living a chaste life, has been proven for over 30 years. I can look at my (future) husband and say, I have saved myself for you. (That is if I ever find the one God places in my path!)

I wonder sometimes if people ever miss other people that they may have corresponded with in the past,,,,,..just a thought...

Yes, yes, yes. Seriously. The fact that priests and especially youth ministers don't push sexual morality because they don't want to "offend" anyone (teens OR parents) absolutely infuriates me. I feel like the John Adams character in 1776 - "It's a revolution! We're going to have to offend SOMEBODY!" Because really, in this world, to following Church teaching IS to be revolutionary and countercultural.

Our priests need to grow a backbone and stand up for what's right, and push their parish leadership to do the same within their own ministries.

I don't know what church you belong too and I am sure there are good and bad, but I have had a wonderful parish that I have belonged to for almost 18 years living in this town. I would say that our holy fathers (priests) preach morality quite well from the pulpit. They have always preached the good news and bad news and maybe people don't really take it all in or aren't really listening to the word of Christ. They are quite aware of the secular world and it's demons. I would say they are more inclined to what is going on than you think and know that the outside world is what influences us to sin. So before you criticize preists or youth minsters, think before you put it down in black and white. We truly need more of them(Prayer). Missing my emocons! Ugh. God Bless!
