Saint Peter's Square was created so that more people could be in the presence of the Pope and was named after Saint Peter, one of Jesus's apostles.

My first thought when I heard the story was Padre Pio also.
And thank you David for sharing the beautiful story of your son!

Indeed, it's a possibility:

But a story coming out of Center, Missouri, might lead skeptics to conclude that a higher-power sometimes intervenes in the midst of tragedy. Of course, theres also the potential that a real-life priest is responsible for the life-saving act thats gaining widespread attention and that he has simply yet to be found."

And in other news, the 26 year-old involved has been charged with DWI for his role in the accident that occurred at about nine o'clock in the morning.

Only this evening, I learned that my son quite possibly saved a toddler's life who had slipped into a river hear Deschutes Oregon where he was vacationing with friends this past week (he returned home Tuesday evening). He had been rafting on the river when he heard the child screaming - approaching to pass in faster water on the other side of the river. He launched himself into the water and swam after the little one, catching hold as they approached a rapid. He held her up out of the water as they were swept toward the rapid by the current; it drew him under and through some rocks bruising one knee and shin. Having passed the rapid, he swam to the bank and was able to hold onto some exposed roots with one hand as he held the child with the other until the family who had been chasing well behind arrived. On one hand, as a parent is the fear that both could have been lost; but on the other hand, I am so very proud of him and thankful to God for His Gift of this fine Soul to be my son.

Glorious is our God!
Amazing!!..and wonderful event.

The priest has come forward:

"Dowling actually identified himself in a comment posting on a story about his actions on the National Catholic Register website Friday night. The posting, one among many, appeared to go unnoticed for several days."

The latest on the subject at The Blaze has it that the priest has been identified. However, I still believe this priest was an angel in priestly form!

Thanks for the link Peter! I still think it's interesting it was a native Irish priest who came to her spiritual & maybe physical rescue. Maybe through his prayer it drove away whatever unseen forces were blocking her rescue. I think it could've been guardian angels &/or St. Patrick's intercession to bring the priest up at the right time & place that he did. As they saying goes: "everything happens for a reason", in such that the priest was covering the mass for another sick priest & just "happened" to travel this highway. Thanking the Lord!

Hi peter,
I love that! I agree wholeheartedly! I also love the way this writer told the story; with reverence. Hmmm...maybe a Catholic writer????
