Exactly, Peter. Is this dirty money worth all the damage it will cause?

All the ills referred to about alcohol result from the abuse of it. Moderate use of it has been proven to be beneficial to health. Saying that does not obviate the seriousness of the abuse of it.

Even moderate use of Pot over a long period will cause serious health and mental problems.

I understand that, Paul. (I'm not a teetotaler, but I do think that the human race has demonstrated its incapacity to handle alcohol.) The "moderate" part of that consumption would be what the doctor prescribed to us.

Now that is an interesting question. How many who try/use pot do not go on to other drugs ? Any reliable stats on that ?
I don't know about statistics but pot was the gateway drug for my youngest stepson, starting him on the road to harder stuff he was never able to break away from. He died just over five years ago at the age of 37. I wish it never existed, but he would've just used something else. On the other hand, my sister in Arizona uses it for to combat nausea from her chemo treatments.

I may have some tomatoes thrown at me for saying this...but I am not entirely convinced that it is a gateway drug. For some it may be, but from my experience witnessing the drug culture in art schools (two), it never seemed to lead those around me to use of cocaine, heroin etc.. But despite this article of experience, I do not think it's cause to take it less seriously.

As far as I know, the Federal government still views it as an illegal substance

I don't know what Marijuana does to unborn babies but alcohol has caused alot of problems in my neck of the woods. I've witnessed first hand how alcohol affects both adults and unborn children: learning problems, behavior issues, parents who don't wake up in the morning, depression, family violence, etc....
