I met Philip (who was a member from Griffith IN) on Catholic Match on May 15, 2008. I had become a member on Catholic Match back in mid-February 2008 and left messages on several guy's pages with no success. When Philip first wrote me, I wrote him back. At the time I was dating someone, but still wanted to talk to him and get to know him better. I didn't receive another message from him for a couple days, so I wrote back and told Philip more about myself and asked him some questions. I told him that I would like to get to know him better and wanted to be friends. Philip then wrote me back on May 20th. We talked online for a few days and then our first date was June 1st. We met at St. Thomas More Church, in Munster, IN for Mass. Then we took the train to downtown Chicago and went to the top of the John Hancock building, went to lunch at the Reagle Beagle Restaurant, the Water Tower shopping center and then to Millenium Park.
We would talk online almost every day and went to see a local band at Wicker Park in Highland IN a few times, would go to church every Sunday together, go to Chicago and do stuff downtown over the summer. Then we started hanging out almost everyday. We enjoyed spending time together and got to know each other very well. This past November, after Thanksgiving, we joined a gym and started exercising together.
On December 21st, Philip proposed. He had his friend make a pen and put it in a nice box. Philip had the ring next to the pen in the case, and had me open the case. He had a note in there that said "Melissa, will you marry me?". I was so happy and excited. We are planning a wedding for May 15, 2010.
I had been on free dating websites when I wasn't having any luck with Catholic Match. I am very happy I stuck with CM and met Philip. I am glad that we met each other and have so much in common. I thank Catholic Match for bringing us together.
When I started on Catholic Match I was just looking for people to date, to go out a few times and see how things might work out. I am a shy person and have a hard time asking people out. So a dating service was a big help for me. You know that people on there are looking for someone to date. Plus, I was looking for someone who shares a faith in Jesus and is Catholic. I met a couple of girls online and we dated, and then I met Melissa. I read her profile and I noticed that we have a lot of the same interests. So, I wrote to her. She wrote me back saying she was dating someone, but that I could write her.
I thought…well if she is dating someone else I will leave her alone. Then she wrote me back asking me some stuff. I was thinking about just ignoring her, because she said she was seeing somone, but I wrote her back. I am so glad I did. We get along great. We are just the perfect match for each other. We share a lot of the same interests. We love doing things together. It is amazing, the changes she has brought to my life. After we dated for a while, I bought an engagement ring and I was planning to give it to her as a Christmas gift. My friend makes pens and he gave me an idea of putting the ring inside a pen case and giving it to her. I couldn't wait, so on Dec 21st, I gave her the case with a little note inside saying "Melissa, will you marry me?" Before she opened it, I told her it was a gift I was going to give to my mom and I wanted her opinion. She was so suprised and happy.
In May of next year, she will be my wife. My advice to singles is to keep trying. Keep praying you will meet that perfect someone. You will. It just takes time. Catholic Match has really helped me find something wonderful and they can help you too.
