We first "met" on CatholicMatch.com — after I (Cathy)had only been a member for maybe 5 minutes, and the very first profile that showed up in my search was Kevin’s! After reading that he believes and lives all seven of the core Catholic beliefs listed, I continued reading and was amazed that he was a cameraman in the DC area (close to the same area where I live) and that we shared the same desire to have our own Catholic faith-based multimedia production company (which I had already begun earlier that year with my mom). His stated values and beliefs were spot-on with mine — I knew I had to talk to this guy right away! I became a full subscriber, sent him a message, telling him about how I too was in the video production business, and the dialogue began. Soon we were talking on the phone and within a week we planned our first date.
Kevin and I spent a wonderful 11 months in courtship. We had about an hour's drive between us, but we managed to see each other at least once or twice a week, and became well acquainted with each other's families. I was so touched how Kevin's parents immediately regarded me as one of the family — they invited me over for every special holiday and family celebration, and my family did likewise for Kevin. I think they all knew we were a match made in heaven!
Some particular highlights of our courtship were visiting Great Falls Park in Great Falls, VA, our first Mass attended together at my parish, going to my first Redskins game (Kevin's a loyal Skins fan), spending the afternoon filming in Shenandoah National Park on my 24th birthday, ice skating on Valentine's Day, Kevin surprising me with two tickets to the Papal Mass in DC, and the Papal Mass itself.
Kevin proposed at the steps of his Catholic parish on June 7, 2008, as a distant thunderstorm blew by and caused dramatic thunder and wind — very cinematic!
Kevin and I were married in a Nuptial Mass at Saint James the Greater Catholic Church in Charles Town, West Virginia on June 20, 2009 — the feast day of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We chose this date specifically as we believe our countless prayers we both made each day to Our Lady to find our beloved and her subsequent intercession brought us together.
We consecrated our marriage to Our Blessed Mother at the altar. We know that whatever comes our way in life and whatever problems we may face in our relationship down the road, they will be easier to bare because we both have a common goal: to love one another and help each other get to Heaven.
