…and use the Word of God to find it.

In the Vatican Basilica [on January 6, 2011], Pope Benedict XVI presided at Mass for the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.

In his homily Benedict XVI explained that the Magi “were probably wise men who studied the skies, but not in an attempt to read the future in the stars; … rather, they were men who sought something greater, who sought the true light, the light capable of indicating the path to follow in life. They were individuals who were certain that the creation contains what we could describe as God’s signature, a signature that man can and must seek to discover and decipher.”

The pope noted that for the wise men to look for a king in a royal palace would have been logical, but the star set before them led them to a less-obvious place, Bethlehem.

“In the end, for the Magi, it was vital to listen to the voice of Holy Scripture; only that could show them the way. The Word of God is the true star which, in the uncertainty of human discourse, offers us the immense splendour of divine truth,” said the pope.

A relevant message for all singles. How often do you find yourself seeking a sign of God’s plan – the one requiring all that patience and trust – and after what seems like endless searching, find the answer in an unexpected place? Perhaps that may be true now in your search for your vocation or spouse.

Heed the Holy Father’s advice and allow scripture to be your guiding star. Here’s a great passage to start with:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given besides you.” –Matthew 6:33
