Single Living

By Theresa-630252

My appreciation for Lent has deepened in recent years, and I’ve been able to use this season to strengthen my relationship with Christ.

Although romantic relationships can be fun and exciting, I’ve come to realize they can also be a distraction. Being single has allowed me to focus on my relationship with Christ and to have a closer encounter with Him.

During Lent I attend holy hour and the Stations of the Cross on Fridays nights. Spending this time in reflection has helped me tremendously, not only in my spiritual life but also to begin to see the woman God intended me to be. I like to think of this as a preparation time, a time to prepare for a healthy relationship in the future.

I’ve also found that this is a great time of year to evangelize our Catholic faith, our traditions, and why we do what we do. Unfortunately, I have some friends – both Catholic and non-Catholic – who have a hard time understanding why I spend my Friday nights at church during Lent. Sometimes they tease that I should be a nun.

I know I’m part of the minority in my age group, but I don’t let that bother me. I feel blessed to have a relationship with God and a desire to grow in my faith. This is the one true relationship that will last forever. The more you invest in this relationship, the better off you’ll be. Lent is the perfect time to improve it.

As for finding my future spouse, I have decided to leave my request to the One who knows best.

Reflection question: What’s keeping you from evangelizing?

Inspiring! I agree, who could be a better matchmaker than God himself?

Good for you, Theresa! I too find Lent a good time to experience a deeper relationship with God and devote more time for the special devotions we have for this season.

Good post “Theresa-630252″. As Catholics, we should consider the season of Lent as spiritual spring training, giving us a chance to strengthen our Faith. You mentioned that you have “friends” that tease you on being at Church on a Friday evening, in the long run they will have to respect you by your actions (even though they may never admit it). Ask yourself the question, how much “fun” can they have by their worldly activities, and how much more meanful for you to spend time with the Lord in Church, so He can strength you in your daily activities. Take care & God Bless!

I am very impressed :) That gives me encouragement to do what you are doing, and that is grow in your relationship with Christ and let him be the match maker!

I’m lucky to have Catholic friends that meet on Friday evenings to pray the rosary before mass and attend evening mass together, and then do something together that night!

Brent, you are very blessed to have good Catholic friends…hold onto them, they’re hard to find. Thanks for reading my reflection everyone and for the nice comments. :)
