Christine came to CatholicMatch very skeptical of online dating. In her mid-50s from New Jersey, she was looking to start again after her divorce, but she had a hard time getting comfortable in the cyber world of meeting people. After three months her subscription to CatholicMatch lapsed.
She kept her profile online though, and a man roughly her age, also from Jersey, who’d lost his first wife, chose to contact her. Christine was intrigued enough that she wanted to communicate with him.
“I paid $50 to renew my membership to CatholicMatch just to meet Michael,” she said. He would prove to be worth the investment. It is also worth noting that Michael put himself out there and made a response possible. Another reminder that being timid about contacting people defeats the purpose of being a part of online dating community.
After communicating by e-mail and phone for about a month it was time for a face-to-face meeting and they decided to get together for Mass and breakfast one Sunday morning. The value of sincerity shone through that day, as Christine found herself attracted to Michael’s genuineness. The fact they were both real and had a lot in common allowed the conversation to flow with ease.
Michael and Christine have seen their relationship grow with the same natural ease. From a family with five brothers, Christine was happy to see how easily he blended in with her clan. Their values were in sync and for now their lives are too. She spends time caring for her aged mother and being with the new man in her life. There’s much to still be worked out, but the future is bright in Jersey.
