“I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish…so make yourself an ark of cypress wood…”

We’re all familiar with the story of Noah’s Ark in the book of Genesis, but one Dutch man is taking this story, and a 20-year-old dream, to heart. Construction owner Johan Huibers has successfully completed a replica of Noah’s legendary ark.

“I dreamed a part of Holland was flooded then the next day I get the idea to build an ark of Noah,” he said on the Today Show the other week.

Huibers invested $1.6 million into the project that took more than three years to complete.  Officially registered in the Netherlands as a building because of its size, the ark is stocked with pairs of fake giraffes, zebras, cows and donkeys and a few live animals, too. Huibers hopes to send the 21st century Noah’s ark down the Thames River before the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

We all know the beginning of the story, but don’t forget the ending:

“I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.  Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you…”

Whether or not the Dutch replica of Noah’s ark makes its way down the Thames next summer, we know that God’s covenant still stands.

I love seeing and reading and getting to know all about stories of the bible- as in the case of Noah’s Ark. To me the bible is like a novel, worth reading over and over again- just so I get a pleasure of knowing fully all of God creation- which sums up my meaningful life on earth plane.
