“At least she’s Catholic!” emailed a close friend who, like so many single Catholic women, has long crushed on Major League Baseball’s most eligible bachelor, Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer.
Indeed, it’s a sad day for single women throughout the Land of 10,000 Lakes. The 28-year-old All-Star proposed to his girlfriend Maddie Bisanz this past weekend in Florida, reported The Pioneer Press:
“(It’s) a place that is special to both of us,” Mauer said Sunday from Florida. “We couldn’t be happier, and we’re both really excited.”
No wedding date has been set. The couple have been friends for about seven years and have been dating for about 1-1/2 years.
CatholicMatch readers were first introduced to Maddie back in September, when Kevin, one of our members, wrote about seeing Maddie at their 10-year high-school reunion from Cretin-Derham Hall, a Catholic high school in St. Paul, Minn. (Thanks for keeping us in the loop, Kevin!)
The time was right when Joe starting dating Maddie. It took him a while to find that special someone.
The lessons we can all learn from Joe is that patience is key along with having a strong will and having a great attitude. It has been a pleasure to have known Joe throughout high school and as a baseball player for the Minnesota Twins.
Blogger Lindsey Guentzel broke the news and now the media is abuzz. (Keep in mind that one of the most popular search phrases for people Googling Joe Mauer was “Joe Mauer girlfriend.”)
Maddie works as a nurse and looks like a sweet, down-to-earth Midwestern gal. Well done, Joe!
A Catholic wedding Mass here in St. Paul seems very likely. We’ll keep you posted!
