It’s cherry blossom time! The National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington starts today, kicking off its centennial celebration. (Seeing the blossoms is on my life to-do list, along with visiting Rome and Lourdes.)
Looking at the beautiful blossoms makes me happy and lifts my heart in praise to God.
“Listen to the sermon preached to you by the flowers, the trees, the shrubs, the sky and the whole world,” said St. Paul of the Cross. “Notice how they preach to you a sermon full of love, of praise of God, and how they invite you to glorify the sublimity of that sovereign Artist who has given them being.”
The lovely pink blooms also give me hope. Hope for the world, hope for myself.
The God of the universe, who created these trees, brings their flowers back each year – just as He constantly renews my faith and remembers the hopes of my heart for love and everything else.
As He fulfills his purpose for his creation, He fulfills my purpose, and yours, in his time: “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me” (Psalm 138:8).
While I wait for what God has in store for me – including marriage, I pray – I will enjoy this season of singleness. And enjoy the cherry blossoms!
