Lisa Duffy’s Daily Reflection

There is an old parable about a bamboo tree whose farmer/master comes to cut it down. The Bamboo is distressed and does not want to be cut down, but the master lovingly says, “I want to use you.” They both know the cutting will be painful and the farmer proceeds to cut down the tree. Then the master tells Bamboo that he will cut off his leaves and hollow him out. Bamboo protested and cried out in pains as the farmer proceeded just as he said. Then the master laid the bamboo across a field with one end in the river so the water could flow through. Bamboo realized that, despite the pain his master allowed him to experience, he had become something totally new and was now able to bring life-giving water to the rest of the crops. This made him very happy.

You may feel the pain of your divorce has been much like being cut down, sheared, and gutted. But in Christ, as He lovingly prunes you for His use, He will create you into a new creature and in your new life you will find great joy.

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. – John 12: 24
