Lisa Duffy’s Daily Reflection

In the sacrament of marriage, spouses give themselves totally to each other and become one heart, one mind, one flesh. This is a beautiful reflection of what Christ does for us in the Eucharist…He gives Himself totally to us so we can be one with Him; one heart, one mind, one flesh. What an incredible sign of love for you, that even though your spouse is gone, Christ will never leave you. Unlike the imperfect love of your spouse, Christ gives you His passionate, unconditional love because His greatest desire is for you to spend eternity with Him in heaven. The gift of Himself that He gives to you will strengthen you for the long haul and give you the graces you need during this terribly difficult time you are experiencing.

When you receive the precious blood during communion, it is under the appearance of wine, yet it is the same blood that covered the whips and chains that were used to scourge Jesus as he was so unjustly punished. It is the same blood as that which ran down the cross and dripped onto the ground as Jesus hung there, suffering for us. It is the same blood that burst forth from his side when the soldier’s arrow pierced his chest. And you are able to receive it! The blood of the new and everlasting covenant, as it is declared during the celebration of the mass. May you receive the grace to understand how precious His blood is. Even though you are not worthy to receive this gift-none of us are-Jesus still gives you the opportunity to come and be one with Him.

“Take and eat,” he said, “this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he handed it to them saying, drink from this, all of you, for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. – Matthew 26: 27-28
