What makes life worth living? Many people would say happiness and love. But what happens when those two things are missing from your life? Does that mean that life has no meaning? No! But when you go through a divorce, it can often feel that way. Happiness and love suddenly seem out of reach and it’s natural to feel an emptiness.
But to say that a life with suffering and challenges means it is a life without meaning is false and missing the point altogether. We all know that with change comes suffering, and with suffering comes a new strength and a new hope. In fact, if you think about it, pretty much all the good things in your life have been as a result of some sort of suffering or self-denial.
As Christians, suffering takes on a whole new meaning that non-believers don’t have and that is hope in Christ and spending eternity with Him. Therefore, we can look at our suffering in this way, “Through Him, with Him, and in Him.”
Through Him: offering your trials to the Father through His perfect Son, Jesus.
With Him: Viewing your difficulties as a chance to walk the road to Calvary with Christ.
In Him: Enduring your struggles in imitation of Jesus, with great love.
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen (Romans 11:36).
