When bad things happen, you can easily become consumed by doubts, worries and negativity. You focus intently on yourself and block out the things that don’t concern you until the crisis is over. But doing this never helps to relieve stress or bring clarity, in fact allowing this to happen will likely make things worse for you.
A great way to overcome this obstacle to having peace in your life is to focus on others instead of yourself. Do you know someone who needs your help in some way? Can you bring someone dinner and visit with them or offer to help with a fix-it job?
There are probably many things you can do to help someone else and give you a break from worrying about your situation. Paying attention to others’ needs also brings a lot of happiness to you. And through helping others, you can allow God to work in your life and take care of these details that are stressing you out.
I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ certainly shall not lose his reward (Mark 9:41).
