The culture of divorce is a deceptive one. It promises an instant fix to the pain and loneliness people feel after divorce through the encouragement of being sexually intimate with others and filling that terrible hole with self-indulgent behavior. But this prescription for healing is nothing but smoke and mirrors, designed to lead you down a path to further pain and destruction. There is nothing good that can come from this and the Church teaches that true healing can only come through Jesus and His sacraments.
However, many people who go through a divorce don’t believe this is true. Are you one of them? Maybe you are not convinced, yet, that doing God’s will will make you happy? Do you doubt that you can be holy and happy?
Then put God to the test…
He inspires your thoughts many times each day, hoping you will act upon them. For one week, put aside your doubt and act on the inspirations He gives you. Make a concerted effort to really put the “holy and happy” idea to the test and see what you think at the end of the week. Make a note of what happened when you followed His lead. God will not disappoint you!
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
