Saints… old saints, new saints. Saint Agnes, Saint Christopher, Saint Maximillian Kolbe. Is it really worth praying to the saints?
The Church upholds the saints and gives us information about their lives so we can see that it is possible to live a good and holy life, no matter what gets thrown your way. Their example shows us that not only can we live virtuous lives in today’s society, but our suffering can have great meaning and become heavenly treasure, instead of just wasted time.
A very famous athlete who won countless awards and accolades, but whom also suffered from a serious disease was always heralded as a champion, a hero. Until the day he said in an interview that he believed all his years of suffering were a complete waste of time. That’s not a hero. The saints in heaven are the true heroes we should look to.
God has allowed you to carry your specific cross, heavy as it may be. But He chose it for you because He knows it can make you a saint. Believe in your strength and pray for deeper virtue. Allow your circumstances to change you in to a hero and someone that others will want to imitate.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
