Twelve is a number that carries with it a certain amount of spiritual authority for believers in the Catholic Church that of course being the number of disciples Jesus chose to carry out his divine mission.
But for Chris and Sandi, 12 has some magic too, but for more down-to-earth reasons. It took 12 messages on CatholicMatch between them to set the tone for a relationship that has grown into something special.
Sandi, 24-years-old and living in southern California, dealt with the same struggles so many other singles do, wondering when “the one” would come along. “I used to always pray to God that He simply allow for the right thing to happen,” she recalled. “I was simply excited for the day he willed it to happen.” Whether Sandi’s sort of humble submission to God’s will speeds up His plan or not, no one knows, but one can safely say it makes a person a lot happier in the process.
It was Sandi’s sister that was the impetus behind trying online dating—Sandi herself wasn’t so much skeptical as she was indifferent. But she gave it a try, she and Chris connected and after those 12 e-mails, they were off to a date of lunch, ice skating and yogurt. That first date was last August and seven months later everything is still going strong.
“He’s incredibly funny,” Sandi said enthusiastically describing the qualities about 25-year-old Chris that are most attractive. Beyond the humor, she also admires a sensitive and caring interior in the former Navy man who now lives about an hour north of her.
Over past several months, Chris and Sandi’s relationship has shown continual growth, including getting actively involved in the lives of each other’s respective families. While there is no formal engagement yet, the couple sees themselves marrying in the Church at some point in the next year. She currently works in technical sales after graduating from nearby Loyola Marymount University, while he joined the Department of Water and Power after serving his country in the Navy.
“I am eternally grateful,” Sandi said regarding her one-time indifference to the suggestion of her sister that the right man might be found online. She waited patiently for the day God chose to act, but is more than happy that the day came sooner than she ever anticipated.
