Lisa Duffy’s Daily Reflection

Have you ever been faced with the idea of forgiving your ex-spouse and respond with NO WAY!? Don’t worry, this is quite normal. Forgiving someone who was supposed to love you ” ’till death do us part” but instead has hurt you deeply is very difficult and quite frankly can seem impossible. But you don’t have to do it all, yourself…

Ask God for the grace to forgive. He has stockpiles of graces that He is waiting to give you if you would only ask for them. If the thought of forgiving your ex-spouse seems to turn your stomach in just considering it, then ask God for the grace to just become willing to even contemplate the possibility of maybe, possibly forgiving. This is a step in the right direction and forgiveness is a process that takes time. So even if you have to start from way, way outside the circle and make your way in to the point of forgiving, that is a good thing. Christ knows you and what you’ve been suffering through. He wants to help you and set you free from the burden you carry. Trust Him and He will give you what you need.

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. - Matthew 5:44
