In going through a divorce and trying to rebuild your life afterwards, it’s easy and quite typical to become consumed with details… children, court battles, angry encounters with your ex-spouse… the why’s, the how did it happen’s, the what if’s… it can be a veritable merry-go-round of emotions and anxieties. But God wants you to lift your face up from these details to see your life in the context of time and eternity. There is more to your life than what is happening now, and although details of this time are part and parcel of the process, they should all be a means to an end… your life in eternity. There is nothing more important than getting to heaven.
You may be suffering terribly and experiencing incredible pain. Don’t worry, that is part of your life at the moment. But it’s only part of your life. It will not always be this way. Even though it might seem the pain will never end, change will come and a new phase of life will arrive. Your life is a precious gift and the way you handle yourself now is your blueprint for building holiness. Take some time today to pray, being as open with God as possible, and thanking Him for the gift of your life.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. – Hebrews 12:1
