The mere willingness of Jim to fly across the country to meet Reena touched her, and she found his sincerity and effort attractive. No less attractive was his commitment to the Catholic Church, particularly in her teachings on marriage and pro-life issues.
“I felt I had to open my heart and put my will into God’s hands, to be open to any woman I may meet through CM, regardless of her location,” Brendan recalled. “CM seemed to be the right conduit to potentially have this opportunity, but I did not set out to do this intentionally.”
Paul had just started coming back to regular Mass attendance when he heard of CatholicMatch. The 52-year-old post office manager in New York City had been sort of on-again, off-again as a churchgoer. Then tragedy struck. His wife died of cancer.
Over the course of the next three months she put together a list of traits that any future partner of hers would have to have. The list would end up with nine, and she gave it to God. “Here’s my heart,” she said to the Lord in prayer. “I’m going to wait and see.
Why in the world would I waste my time talking to someone so far away?, Sheri thought to herself when the chat request from Robbie came through on her CatholicMatch account. He’s in Minnesota for goodness sakes! Two states away! Yes, the then-23-year-old from St. Louis was a little skeptical. But she decided there was really nothing to lose—it was only an online chat request. So she responded and the door was opened to something beautiful.
One problem was that there wasn’t a lot of hope for finding dating prospects. Angie lived in a small town in central Florida, whose population was mostly retirees. Yet, she was also not entirely comfortable with the idea of online dating. “I can be kind of shy and I usually avoid situations that require me to talk to lots of strangers,” she said. “Online dating would be the opposite of my comfort zone.”
“I never wanted a long-distance relationship,” Angela admitted. “In my CatholicMatch searches, I never searched more than 200 miles…I am so thankful that Gene chose to message me and I chose to respond. I share our story because it was someone else’s story that helped encourage me to join CatholicMatch…I hope that maybe ours will be an inspiration and encouragement to others who are frustrated with dating.”
Jaci’s view of online dating quickly changed for the better, and not just because she liked the safety features put in place by CatholicMatch. An even bigger reason was that a Navy sailor, soon to be stationed in Pensacola, contacted her in that first month.
Brian and Sasha each walked a common path in their dating lives prior to meeting each other, and unfortunately it was a path marked with pain and suffering. In the end though, their story proved to be yet another witness of God’s grace and mercy triumphing over that, as they sought to cooperate with His plan to bring them together.
