I didn't read the book but caught the movie. I just could not get past the point that the main character has the money to fund a very lavish trip. I found it hard to reconcile the materialistic aspects of the movie with the Spiritual.

I had heard so much hype about the book and movie, I watched it with a close friend. She was so into the plot and the experiences, but all I could think of is "what on earth was she thinking?". Not all women have to experience gratuitous sex for personal growth. Sometimes it's the journey of experiencing the pain that gives us growth. Anyone remember "redemptive suffering"? It still exists., although obviously not in Hollywood.

I saw the movie and it was more intense in many respects that I thought. I have the book that the movie was inspired from and I know I don't want to go to India, but I really want to go to Italy even more after seeing that part of the movie.

I couldn't get through the book, I thought it was boring and I didn't like the movie either, never finished watching it.
